SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES
Student answer (Band 7.0)
The two line graphs represent the number of speed camera fines and the road accident casualities in Britain over the eight year period. The three tables compare the opinions of people based on the survey on speed cameras about their benefits, reasons for the installation, and their numbers.
Overall, the speed camera fines have surged dramatically over the given period, whereas the mortalities due to road accidents have shown a marginal growth over the years. Moreover, majority of the people think that speed cameras do not reduce the number of road accidents and they are installed to raise revenue. While the major percentage of the population believe that there are too many cameras installed on the roads.
The number of speed camera fines have shown a rapid surge from 200,000 dollars in the first year to almost 1,600,000 in the eighth year. Moreover, the road accident fatalities slightly gained a boost from 3,100 in the first year ro 3,250 in the eighth year. Moreover, almost 60% of people believe that speed cameras have no role in reducing the road accidents, while almost 32% people decline that.
Furthermore, majority of the population believe that speed cameras are installed to raise revenue, which is 71% and 26% believe that it is to improve the road safety. Moreover, 56% individuals think that there are too many cameras, while 19% believe the otherwise. 17% individuals affirm that there are right numbers of cameras installed on roads.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
The student successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by describing both the line graphs regarding speed camera fines and fatalities, and the survey tables regarding public opinion. An overview is clearly presented, highlighting the main trends and survey findings, such as the dramatic surge in fines compared to the marginal growth in fatalities. Key data points are accurately cited, such as the rise in fines from 200,000 to 1,600,000 and the survey statistics like 71% believing cameras raise revenue. The response is fully developed and satisfies all requirements of Task 1.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The report is logically organized into four paragraphs, starting with an introduction, followed by a clear overview paragraph, and two body paragraphs detailing the visual data. Cohesive devices are used adequately and appropriately (e.g., 'Overall', 'Moreover', 'Furthermore'), though there is a slight over-reliance on 'Moreover' to start consecutive sentences. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, guiding the reader smoothly from the visual charts to the survey tables.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'surged dramatically', 'marginal growth', 'rapid surge', and 'fatalities'. However, there is a spelling error ('casualities' instead of 'casualties') and a minor factual/currency slip in the body paragraph referring to the fines as '200,000 dollars' when the chart does not specify currency. Less common vocabulary is attempted with reasonable success.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
The student employs a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including relative and subordinate clauses. There are a few grammatical inaccuracies and awkward phrasings, such as 'majority of the people' missing the article 'the', 'ro' instead of 'to', and 'right numbers of cameras' instead of 'the right number'. However, the majority of sentences are error-free, and these minor slips do not impede communication.
