Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, including the line graphs and the survey tables, but some areas are more fully developed than others. The overview captures the main trends well, noting the sharp rise in speeding fines and the fluctuation in fatalities. However, some of the specific data points are inaccurate or exaggerated, such as stating there was an '8 fold increase to 1,800,000' and misquoting the fatality figures. Furthermore, the survey data is integrated, but the details are somewhat compressed. To reach a higher level, the writer needs to select data more accurately and ensure all figures cited directly reflect the provided visual information without distortion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The text presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into paragraphs for the introduction, overview, trend details, and survey results. Logical progression is generally maintained through sequencing words like 'Overall', 'In detail', and 'on the other hand'. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or slightly faulty, such as in the abrupt transition into the survey paragraph. Referencing is occasionally loose, and paragraphing could be refined to better separate the distinct data sets of the line graphs and the survey tables. To improve, use a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive devices to connect ideas smoothly without relying on formulaic transition phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with some successful attempts at less common phrasing such as 'sky rocketed', 'fluctuated', and 'generate revenue'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, including 'fatalitites', 'thorughtout', 'Overalll', and 'toomany', along with imprecise numerical descriptions. These lexical inaccuracies and spelling slips prevent the writing from achieving a higher band. To elevate the lexical score, the student should expand their range of precise reporting verbs and adjectives, pay closer attention to word forms and spelling, and ensure that collocations related to data description are used accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and multi-clause sentences. However, there are frequent errors in grammar, articles, and punctuation throughout the text, such as missing articles before singular nouns ('the 2 line graph', 'number of fatalitites', 'statistics on people's opinion'), prepositional awkwardness, and comma splices. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they persist across different sentence types. To reach the next band, the student must increase the proportion of error-free sentences by paying closer attention to subject-verb agreement, article usage, and punctuation control when constructing complex sentences.
