SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The provided charts depicts information regarding the number of cases of speeding in Britain and number of people who died in road crashes in 8 years after installation of cameras.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is quite evident that speed cameras have experienced an exponential growth over the period. While the number of fatalities remained relatively stable with minor fluctuations. Furthermore, the public opinion on speed cameras reflects a negative attitude, with majority believing that speed cameras do not reduce accidents and peopple believes that it is installed to generate revenue.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response only partially addresses the task and is severely cut short, failing to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words by ending abruptly at 98 words and leaving the body paragraphs incomplete. While the introduction correctly identifies the subject matter and the overview attempts to summarise both the graphs and survey results, the information is limited and under-developed. Without a complete discussion of the numerical trends and survey data, key features are omitted and the response remains far too brief to satisfy the requirements of an academic report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation with an attempt at an introductory and an overview paragraph, but the lack of a completed body paragraph prevents any clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are minimal, with simple transitional phrases like 'Looking from an overall perspective' and 'Furthermore' used to link sentences. However, referencing is sometimes awkward, and the text breaks off mid-sentence ('Regarding the line graphs, the number'), leaving the structural flow incomplete and disrupting the overall logical development of the report.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The lexical range is limited but minimally adequate for the task, featuring attempts at descriptive vocabulary such as 'exponential growth', 'relatively stable', and 'minor fluctuations'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'depicts information' matching a plural subject incorrectly, 'peopple' containing a spelling mistake, and 'peopple believes' showing subject-verb agreement issues rooted in vocabulary control. These errors cause some distraction for the reader, and the restricted vocabulary prevents a more precise description of the charts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response exhibits a limited range of structures, attempting some complex sentences that are occasionally flawed by grammatical errors. Issues include singular and plural noun agreement errors, such as 'charts depicts' and 'number of cases... and number of people', as well as incomplete sentence structures caused by the premature ending. While basic sentences are generally understandable, frequent minor slips in grammar and punctuation remain noticeable and restrict the overall accuracy of the writing.
