Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response addresses the task only partially and struggles to accurately report the visual data provided. Instead of focusing primarily on the graphs and tables detailing speed camera fines, road accident fatalities, and public survey results, the writer spends the majority of the introduction and body paragraphs discussing general causes of road accidents, such as drunk driving and unconscious driving, which are not part of the prompt. When attempting to describe the data, the interpretation is inaccurate; for instance, stating that fatalities stayed the same over all eight years misrepresents the fluctuations, and the description of the fine amounts contains significant errors. To move up, the response must select and accurately report key features from all parts of the visual data without introducing irrelevant outside commentary.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently, and the overall progression is difficult to follow. The essay lacks clear paragraphing, beginning with an extended general discussion before awkwardly transitioning into the data description with phrases like 'There is graph that illustrats...'. Cohesive devices are minimal, mechanical, or used inappropriately, leading to abrupt shifts between sentences. Referencing is frequently unclear, such as using vague pronouns like 'the incident' and 'the reason' without proper contextual anchors. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to group related information logically into distinct paragraphs—separating the overview, the graph trends, and the survey data—and use clear cohesive links to guide the reader through the data smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by numerous word-choice and spelling errors that strain the reader. Examples of inaccurate lexical choices and non-standard forms include 'mechinical tech', 'vehical', 'transpot', 'reportrd', 'uncouncious', and 'monetring'. Spelling mistakes are widespread throughout the text, such as 'amout', 'illustrats', 'raod', and 'advancment'. There is little attempt at less common lexical items, and phrasing remains restricted to simple descriptive language. To improve, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, learn correct spellings of common academic and topic-related terms, and practice accurate word forms and collocations to ensure meaning is conveyed without difficulty.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, and frequent errors across basic and complex structures distort meaning and cause difficulty for the reader. There are widespread issues with verb forms and tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles, seen in phrases like 'There was a time when there was not good transportation services', 'now the the advancement in mechinical tech increased', and 'the goverment install camers on road'. Complex sentence attempts are frequently faulty, leading to run-on structures and fragmented syntax. Punctuation is also neglected, with missing capitalization and incorrect comma usage. To progress, the writer needs to focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tense consistency when describing data, and eliminating fundamental agreement and article errors.
