Student answer (Band 5.5)
The line graph and a table shows the number of drivers in Britain who have been caught driving too fast by speed cameras placed on roads, and the number of people killed in road accidents, over an eight-year period since the introduction of speed cameras. In first graph, the speed camera has an upward trend since first year. A drastic change in fines shows in 5th year and goes upward till 1,600,000 fines in 8th year. Compared with road accident fatalities, it shows a fluctuation in each year but the facts remain from 3000 to 3500 only.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your response addresses the task only partially, and importantly, it falls short of the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, standing at 141 words. Furthermore, a substantial portion of your introductory paragraph is copied directly from the task prompt, which is not counted towards your total word count. While you attempt to provide an overview of the data, the development of your ideas is limited. For example, your description of the graphs mentions that fines experienced an upward trend and fatalities showed fluctuations, but you omit key comparative details and fail to fully synthesise the information from the survey tables. To improve, you need to ensure you write at least the minimum required length, avoid copying prompt text verbatim, and present a more thorough, well-developed overview of all visual data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
Your response shows some overall organization, with paragraphs divided into an introduction, body details, survey findings, and a brief conclusion. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed and lacks a clear overall flow. Cohesive devices are used, but they are occasionally inaccurate, mechanical, or awkwardly applied, such as the abrupt transition using 'Conversely,' and 'On the other hand,' which do not logically connect the contrasting data points as intended. Additionally, referencing within the text is weak in places, such as 'In first graph' missing necessary articles, and the concluding paragraph lacks clear logical progression. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider and more flexible range of cohesive devices naturally, ensure smooth transitions between paragraphs, and maintain a clear, logical structure from beginning to end.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You demonstrate a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for this task, relying heavily on basic terms and repeating words like 'speed cameras' and 'people'. There are noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices that cause some difficulty for the reader, such as writing 'reducte' instead of reduce, and stating that people 'are agree' instead of agreeing. Other expressions, such as 'mostly people have negative image' and 'Average people have mixed', lack natural collocation and precision. To improve your lexical score, you need to avoid spelling and morphological errors, expand your range beyond basic vocabulary, and learn standard collocations and word forms appropriate for academic reporting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
Your response uses a very limited range of structures, and your attempts at complex or compound sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ('In first graph', 'on road'), incorrect preposition usage ('regarding speed cameras reducte the number', 'think regarding road safety'), and subject-verb agreement issues. For instance, writing 'The line graph and a table shows' is grammatically incorrect because the compound subject requires a plural verb. These recurring errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a weak control of grammatical forms. To achieve a higher band, you must demonstrate a greater variety of complex structures with improved accuracy, paying closer attention to articles, verb agreements, and prepositional patterns.
