SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The tow line graphs illustrate the figure of drivers who have been noticed driving very fast by speed cameras located on roads, and the number of individuals lose their life due to road accidents, over eight year period in Britain. While the three tables illustrate the findings from a survey about people’s thought about speed cameras.

Overall, the number of people have been caught by speed cameras increased significantly over period given , while the number of fatality accidents experienced a flactuation in eight years with slight change in the number. Majority of people believed speed cameras do not reduce the number of accidents, while least amount of people do know the exact purpose for speed camera installation. Many people believed that number of road accidents are so much.

Regarding to the line graphes, it is clear that speed camera fines rose considerably. With only 200,000 in the first year, to about 1,600,00 in the final year. Fatalities began as 3000 cases , after reaching the top in second and third year, it declined to the intial state of 3000. After experiencing slight flactuation the number reached 3,500 in the last year.

In terms of survey, 60% of people voted for no and they believed speed cameras do not reduce the number of road accidents effectively, while 32% voted for yes. Similarly, 71% of individuals thought the main purpose for such developement is to raise revenue, whearas 26% believed it is to improve road safety. 56% believe there are too many car accidents, while 19% voted for too few and 17% for about right. People who claimed do not know ranged between 3% to 8% in all tables.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by describing both the line graphs and the survey data, while also providing a clear overall summary. Key features and trends are identified, such as the significant increase in speed camera fines and the fluctuation in road fatalities. However, some aspects of the data are slightly under-developed or inaccurately described. For instance, the writer misinterprets the survey statistic regarding the number of speed cameras, stating that "56% believe there are too many car accidents" instead of noting that respondents felt there were too many speed cameras. Despite this minor lapse, the selection and overview requirements are met sufficiently to sit comfortably at this level, showing clear awareness of the task demands.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The report maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas. The response is divided into appropriate paragraphs, separating the introduction, overview, line graph analysis, and survey results. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, although referencing and transitions are occasionally mechanical or slightly faulty, such as the abrupt beginning of sentences like "Regarding to the line graphes" and "In terms of survey". Paragraphing is handled reasonably well, but within paragraphs, the flow could be smoother. The use of referencing pronouns is generally clear, but occasional minor awkwardness prevents the text from achieving a higher level of cohesion. Overall, the structural organization is logical and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as "flactuation", "revenue", and "development". However, there are notable spelling errors ("flactuation" instead of fluctuation, "whearas" instead of whereas, "graphes" instead of graphs, "intial" instead of initial) and occasional word choice inaccuracies, such as "the figure of drivers" instead of "the number of drivers" and "fatality accidents" instead of "road accident fatalities". These lexical inadequacies and spelling slips occasionally distract the reader, but communication is not severely impeded, aligning well with the characteristics of this band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and subordinate structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in verb forms, prepositions, and articles. Examples include "over eight year period" (missing article), "people lose their life" (incorrect verb form), "the number of people have been caught" (subject-verb agreement), and "Regarding to" (incorrect prepositional pattern). Punctuation errors also appear, such as comma splices and incorrect spacing. While these errors are noticeable and occur with some frequency, the meaning remains mostly clear, representing a typical blend of simple and flawed complex structures.
