Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by describing both the visual data and survey results, meeting the length requirement as over 150 words of original text are present. However, performance remains at this level because some parts are developed more fully than others, and there are several minor inaccuracies when reporting data. For instance, the writer states that road accidents were 'above 3000' in the initial year and decreased to 3000 in the fourth year, which roughly tracks the chart, but other descriptions are imprecise. Additionally, the overview touches upon the main trends but contains minor grammatical errors that obscure precision, such as 'road accident fatalities following fluctulate trends'.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The report maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear division into introduction, overview, body paragraphs for the charts, and a final paragraph for the survey data. Information flows logically from one point to the next, though referencing and transitional phrases are occasionally mechanical or faulty. For instance, the transition 'In contrast' used before introducing the survey statistics is inappropriate since the survey results do not directly contrast with the preceding traffic data. Paragraphing is utilised to group related ideas, but cohesion within sentences occasionally falters due to missing linking words and repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, providing a minimally sufficient range to convey the basic statistics and survey opinions. The writer attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'fluctuate trends', 'revenue', and 'dilemma', but these attempts are frequently accompanied by inaccuracies in word form, spelling, or collocation (e.g., 'spped', 'highest pick', 'intial year', 'reamaning', 'dilemma' instead of 'doubt'). Spelling mistakes like 'britain', 'to' instead of 'too', and 'safty' are noticeable and demonstrate limitations in lexical control, restricting the score to this level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating clauses with 'although' and relative structures. However, there are numerous grammatical errors involving prepositions, articles, verb tenses, and subject-verb agreement. Examples include 'speed camera fines was gradually increased', 'reason for the installation of speed cameras to raise revenue' (missing verb), and 'in road' instead of 'on roads'. Punctuation is also erratic in places. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough across complex structures to typify this level of grammar control.
