SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The two line graphs indicate the number of drivers who have been fined for over speeding through speed cameras and the number of individuals who have lost heir life from such activities. Along with that the table below represents the persepective of people from a survey on speed cameras.

Overall, the fine imposed on drivers has risen significantly throughout the period. While the mortality rate in road accident is mostly constant with slight fluctuations. On the other hand most of the people are not satisfied with the speed camera outcome.

In the initial years, the fines were capped at [redacted phone]. However, a pronounced growth was seen in the following years as a consequnece penalties almost tripled in the fifth year and by the end of the timeperiod it surged to close to [redacted phone]. In contrast death figure were nearly 3200 in the starting figures that increased slightly in the upcoming years however it dipped to 3000 in the fourth year and by the final year the numbers were similar to the first year that was 3200.

Moving ahead to the survey data, 60% of the people agreed that speed cameras were not able to prevent road casualties while a smaller percentage of peopel were unsure. In comparision revenue emerged as the primary reason for installing speed cameras. while more than a half of the society has foundexcessive cameras whereas only 8% are not aware of it.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover both graphs and the survey, and your overview identifies the main contrast: fines rose substantially while fatalities fluctuated around a broadly stable level. You also report several survey findings accurately, including the 60% who said cameras do not reduce accidents and the 71% who believed revenue was the main reason for installation. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear. Fines reached about 1.6 million in year eight, not “close to 150000,” and the fifth-year figure was 580,000, so it had not nearly tripled from the first year. Fatalities ended at about 3,350, rather than 3,200. The overview’s claim that people were generally dissatisfied is also imprecise; specify that most thought there were too many cameras and that most doubted their effectiveness. More precise reporting and fuller coverage of the figures would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The report has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph about the graphs, and one about the survey. This makes the information generally easy to follow, and transitions such as “In contrast” and “Moving ahead to the survey data” help signal shifts. Some connections, however, are mechanical or unclear. “Along with that” is an awkward link in the introduction, while “In the initial years” does not clearly identify which year is being discussed. The graph paragraph also moves between fines and fatalities without consistently anchoring comparisons to specific years. In the survey paragraph, “while” begins a new sentence after a full stop, disrupting the flow. Use clearer topic sentences and link each figure to its relevant category or year to make progression more controlled.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “pronounced growth,” “mortality rate,” “fluctuations,” and “primary reason.” These choices show an effort to describe trends and survey results rather than relying only on basic words. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less precise: “over speeding,” “fine imposed,” “death figure,” and “found excessive cameras” do not express the intended ideas naturally. There are also spelling errors, including “heir,” “persepective,” “consequnece,” and “peopel.” Aim for accurate collocations such as “speeding fines,” “number of fatalities,” and “considered there to be too many cameras.” More reliable word choice and spelling would make your descriptions clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex structures, including the contrast in “While the mortality rate … is mostly constant” and the longer sentence beginning “In contrast death figure…”. The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some sentence structures are incomplete or poorly controlled. “While the mortality rate …” is a dependent clause presented as a sentence, and “In contrast death figure were…” has an agreement problem and needs clearer punctuation. In “the numbers were similar to the first year that was 3200,” the relative clause does not attach clearly to the intended noun. There are also inconsistent tense choices, such as “has risen” alongside past-tense descriptions of the period. Practise complete sentences, consistent past tense for the historical data, and clearer clause boundaries.
