Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the broad contrast that fines rise while fatalities fluctuate, but it does not adequately describe the full visual information. The three survey tables are omitted entirely, and several chart details are inaccurate: fines do not rise by roughly 200,000 each year, and fatalities peak in year 8, not years 2 and 3. The overview is also unclear, particularly the claim that fatalities are “not constant in during period years.” The report contains only 149 words, below the required 150; the 12 words copied from the prompt are excluded from that count. To improve, include a concise overview and select accurate key figures and comparisons from both the graphs and survey.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two graph series. This gives the reader some sense of the report’s intended organisation. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow, and the survey information is not integrated at all. Linking words are often repetitive or confusing: “Although,” “moreover,” and “However” appear without clear logical relationships, while the final paragraph moves between years without a clear sequence. Organise the report by first summarising the main trends, then describing the fines, fatalities, and survey results in a logical order. Use fewer, more precise connectors and make each sentence’s relationship to the previous one clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “speed camera fines,” “road accident fatalities,” and “increasing,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which makes several statements hard to interpret. For example, “numerous of drivers” is not an appropriate expression for a number, “people took accidents” does not convey the intended meaning, and “line becomes extending” is unclear. “Policy cameras” also misnames speed cameras. Build a more precise range for describing data, such as “the number of fines,” “fatalities fluctuated,” and “rose sharply,” and check that each phrase expresses the intended trend naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts longer sentences and uses some subordination, for example, “Although, the road accident fatalities were non constantly increasing or mitigating.” However, sentence control is weak: several clauses are joined without clear grammatical structure, and verb forms and articles are frequently missing or incorrect. Examples include “the speed camera fines increasing,” “over eight year period,” and “during the 3rd of year accident became reduced.” Punctuation also creates run-on sentences, particularly in the overview and the fines paragraph. Practise writing short, complete sentences with a clear subject and finite verb, then combine ideas using accurate clauses. For example: “Fines increased throughout the period, whereas fatalities fluctuated.”
