SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent report comparing number of road speed violations and road accident fatalities in past 8 years in Britain, shows that the fines have skyrocketed but the number of people killed in road accidents remain somewhat same in this duration. Also a survey has been done regarding this particular situation.
Report shows that speed camera fines now are nearly 8 times as much as were in the first year of beginning of their installation. But the road accident fatalities are in the same range of 3000 to 3500 per year. This particular report lead to majority of people thinking that the speed cameras are being installed to raise govt revenue rather to improve road safety. As speed cameras are installed with creating a narritive that it will significantly elevate the road safety. Only 32% of people in Britain believes that speed cameras reducing the road accidents while 60% thinks otherwise according to the survey.
Survey futher reveals that only 26% people thinks that the main reason for installing speed cameras is to improve road safety and 71% of people thinks are installed to raise revenue. And when these people were asked about the quantity of speed cameras installed in Britain, 56% says they are too many 19% thinks that cameras are too few and about 17% thinks that there enough speed cameras.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main contrast accurately: fines rise sharply, while fatalities remain broadly stable, and you cover all three survey questions. The figures of 32% believing cameras reduce accidents, 60% disagreeing, and 71% attributing them to revenue are also reported correctly. This gives the report relevant coverage, although some points are less fully developed: the fines increase from about 200,000 to 1.6 million, roughly eightfold, but the year-by-year pattern is not described, and the fatalities fluctuate within a narrow range rather than simply staying in the same range. The final claim that cameras are “not achieving the purpose” goes beyond what the data proves. Keep the overview factual and avoid drawing causal conclusions from the survey and graphs.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an opening summary, discussion of the graphs and survey findings, and a concluding statement. The ideas are generally grouped by topic, and links such as “Also,” “But,” and “when” help the reader follow the report. However, progression is sometimes weakened by mechanical or unclear connections. For example, “This particular report lead to majority of people thinking” makes the relationship between the graph and survey sound causal, while “As speed cameras are installed with creating a narritive…” is an incomplete, difficult-to-follow sentence. The final paragraph repeats an interpretation rather than adding a clear summary. Use separate paragraphs for the graph overview and survey results, and connect them neutrally with phrases such as “The survey also found.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “speed camera fines,” “road accident fatalities,” “raise revenue,” and “road safety,” and “skyrocketed” conveys the sharp rise. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or too informal for an academic report: “number of road speed violations” does not precisely describe the number of drivers caught, “govt revenue” is abbreviated, and “collecting more money out” is unnatural. There are also spelling errors, including “narritive” and “futher,” which reduce control. Aim for precise, neutral reporting language and check spelling. For example, describe the fines as having “increased substantially” and say that respondents believed cameras were installed “primarily to generate revenue.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast between the two trends and clauses introduced by “while” and “when.” However, errors in sentence formation, agreement, and verb forms are frequent enough to make some sentences awkward or unclear. The opening, “In recent report … shows,” lacks a clear grammatical subject and has an article error. In “the number of people killed … remain,” the singular subject requires “remains”; similarly, “32% of people … believes” should use “believe.” The sentence beginning “As speed cameras are installed…” is incomplete, and “This report have given data” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. Practise complete sentence structures and check agreement, articles, and verb forms before submitting.
