Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You cover both charts and the survey, and identify the main contrast: fines rise substantially, while fatalities fluctuate within a relatively narrow range. The figures of 200,000 and 1,600,000 for fines and the survey results of 60%, 71% and 56% are broadly accurate. However, the report is only partly developed: it gives few intermediate figures and does not clearly summarise the overall relationship between rising fines and largely stable fatalities. The first-year fatality figure is also described as around 3,000, whereas the chart shows about 3,150. Include a concise overview and select a few key comparisons, such as the fines’ sharp acceleration in the final years and the small variation in deaths.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, a paragraph about the graphs, and one about the survey. This helps the reader distinguish the visual information. Some progression is also apparent, moving from the charts to public opinion. However, the opening sentence is very long and difficult to follow, and the report lacks a clear overview to guide the reader through the main findings. Linking is often mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “and” and “every year.” The survey results are presented as a sequence rather than grouped or compared. Use shorter, clearly focused sentences and organise the report around an overview, chart details, and survey findings, with precise links such as “By contrast” or “Regarding public opinion.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “speed camera fines,” “road accident fatalities,” “installation,” and “revenue,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less clear. For example, “got catch for driving car too fast” is not a natural way to describe drivers being caught speeding, and “the number of accidents where not reduce” confuses accidents with the survey’s view about whether cameras reduce them. Spelling errors such as “servay,” “reavenue,” and “belives” are also noticeable. Aim for accurate report language, including “were caught speeding,” “fatalities remained relatively stable,” and “respondents believed.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response communicates its main points through mostly simple sentence patterns, with occasional attempts to combine ideas. However, grammatical errors are frequent, and some sentences require effort to interpret. The opening, “the given graphs shows,” has subject–verb disagreement, while “the number of speed camera fines increases to 1,600,000” shifts tense inconsistently when describing past data. Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “when the britain government made an public servay,” and the long opening sentence lacks clear control of clauses and punctuation. Practise past-tense reporting and basic sentence boundaries: for example, “Fines rose from about 200,000 in Year 1 to 1.6 million in Year 8.” Then check agreement, articles, and punctuation.
