Student answer (Band 6.0)

The line graph illustrates in Britain people who driving too fast on road they they have been caught by speed cameras placed on roads compared with the number of people killed in road accidents, over an eight year since the speed cameras introduced. Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover both the line graph and all three survey questions, and the overview correctly identifies the strong rise in fines alongside broadly fluctuating fatalities. Several key comparisons are also included, such as the 60% who said cameras do not reduce accidents and the 71% who believed revenue was the main reason for their installation. However, some figures and descriptions are inaccurate: fines were about 300,000 in year 2, not 400,000; fatalities were about 3,150 in year 1, not 3,000; and the graph peaks at roughly 3,350, not 3,500. The claim that fatalities rose steadily is also misleading because they fluctuate. More precise reporting of these trends and figures would make the coverage more complete and reliable.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The report has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on the graphs and a final paragraph on the survey. This makes the main information easy to locate, and transitions such as “To begin with” and “Turning to” help signal changes in focus. However, some links between ideas are awkward or unclear, particularly “more than double, in following year at 4 lakhs,” which does not clearly explain the comparison. The graph paragraph also moves between the two series without consistently distinguishing their trends, and repeated “whereas” and “Furthermore” constructions make cohesion somewhat mechanical. Use clearer sentence boundaries and refer explicitly to each series when comparing figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “fluctuated,” “installation,” “revenue” and “accounted for,” and the reader can generally understand the intended comparisons. However, the range and control of collocations are limited, with noticeable awkward or inaccurate expressions such as “proportion of speed camera fines,” “paid the over speed fine,” and “disagreed with speed camera reduced the road accidents.” These choices sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. There is also repetition of “people” and “speed camera,” and “lakhs” is not the clearest convention for reporting these British figures in an IELTS report. Aim for precise terms such as “number of fines,” “speeding fines” and “respondents,” and check that phrases sound natural in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “whereas” and “which,” and the report’s overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. Examples include “people who driving” (missing auxiliary and incorrect verb form), “over an eight year since the speed cameras introduced” (article, number and passive-form problems), and “road accidents fatalities was” (agreement). Several sentences join independent ideas with commas, as in “In contrast, road accidents fatalities was 3000 in 1st year, it has been fluctuated…,” making the relationships harder to follow. Practise accurate past-tense and passive constructions, subject–verb agreement, and separating complete clauses with full stops or suitable conjunctions.
