Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You cover the two graphs and all three survey questions, and several figures are close to the chart, such as the rise in fines from 200,000 to 1,600,000 and the survey result that 60% answered “No.” However, the report does not give a reliable account of the data: fatalities are repeatedly reported as 30,000–34,000, whereas the chart shows roughly 3,100–3,350. Some fine figures are also inaccurate, including year 3 (about 380,000, not 400,000) and year 5 (about 580,000, not 550,000). There is no clear overview of the main patterns, and the final claim that “almost everybody” replied is unsupported. Select the key trends, summarise them accurately, and avoid adding a setting such as a lecturer questioning students.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response follows a recognisable order: it describes fines, then fatalities, and finally the survey. This helps the reader locate the different information, and phrases such as “In year 4” provide basic sequencing. However, progression is often mechanical, with repeated openings such as “Now we will discuss” and “In year…,” and the report lacks a concise overview to connect the main findings. The long blocks also make the sections difficult to distinguish. Use separate paragraphs for the overview, graphs, and survey, and group related years rather than listing every point in sequence. More varied, accurate linking would make comparisons clearer and reduce repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary, including “increased,” “fatalities,” “installation,” and “road safety,” so the topic is generally identifiable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for a formal data report. “The amount of disaster from road accidents” does not clearly mean the number of deaths, while “penalty” is used repeatedly where “fines” is more precise. “The fine is going higher and higher” is conversational and repetitive, and “the university lecturer questioning the students” invents a context not shown in the tables. Aim for precise reporting language and avoid synonyms that change or obscure the meaning of the data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both short statements and longer sentences, and the reader can follow much of the intended sequence. However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes affect clarity. Examples include “These graphs shows,” where the plural subject requires “show,” and “road accident fatalities is,” where the subject requires a plural verb. There are also faulty sentence patterns, such as “In year of 3” and “the road accidents fatalities in 31,000,” as well as inconsistent capitalisation after commas and full stops. Build accuracy with straightforward sentence patterns first, checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete clauses. Then add comparisons using controlled structures such as “while” and “whereas.”
