SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The graphs illustrates eight years data of drivers been caught on camers exceeding speed and the road accidents which have occured in Britain.

While, the survey of people's opinion on speed camera can be seen in the table.

The rise in speed camera fines can be seen while the number of road accidents seem fluctuating. Surveys report the negavtive feedback on speed cameras.

The fines show an increasing number of drivers caught, starting from 200,000 in first year to around 500,000 in course of three years, leading to 1,600,000 by the end of eight years. Whereas it can be seen that even with speed cameras, the number of road accidents have not decreased. It shows a fluctuated data lying between 3000 to 3500 accidents in all eight years.

The survery report shows an unsatisfactoty feedback from the public. Around 60% of the people think that speed cameras do not help in reducing road accidents and 71% have an opinion that they are just installed to increase the revenue and 56% people think they are too many.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover both the charts and the survey, and identify the main contrast: fines rise substantially, while fatalities fluctuate rather than showing a clear decline. The figures of 200,000, about 500,000 and 1,600,000, together with the survey results of 60%, 71% and 56%, support your account. This is a relevant overview, but some details are less fully reported: the fatalities are people killed, not simply “road accidents,” and the range is approximately 3,100–3,350 rather than 3,000–3,500. The survey’s 32% who believe cameras reduce accidents and the 26% who cite road safety are omitted. Include these contrasting minority views and describe the chart data more precisely to make the coverage more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on the graphs and a final paragraph on survey findings. This helps the reader follow the broad division of information. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes abrupt, and linking is not always effective. For example, “While, the survey…” is an incomplete opening, and “Whereas it can be seen…” does not connect smoothly to the preceding sentence. The overview also repeats the idea that fines rise and accidents fluctuate before the details are given. Use complete topic sentences, group related comparisons together, and use a small range of accurate links such as “by contrast” or “in the survey” to make the progression clearer.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “fines,” “fluctuating,” “revenue” and “reducing road accidents,” so the main information is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision: “camers,” “negavtive,” “survery” and “unsatisfactoty.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “drivers been caught on cameras exceeding speed” and “unsatisfactory feedback,” which does not accurately describe the survey results. Choose standard collocations such as “drivers caught speeding” and “respondents’ views.” Proofread spelling carefully and avoid repeating broad terms like “number” and “shows”; more precise vocabulary would make the report clearer and more formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including “even with speed cameras, the number of road accidents have not decreased.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Examples include “The graphs illustrates” (subject–verb agreement), “eight years data” (possessive construction), and “the number … have not decreased” (agreement). “While, the survey…” is also a fragment, while “starting from … to” uses an incorrect paired construction. Aim for complete sentences and check agreement, articles and verb forms. For example, write “The graphs illustrate data over eight years” and “the number of fatalities has not decreased.”
