SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The bar chart shows us the number of speed camera fines over the period of 8 years and the second bar chart represnts the nunber of fatality occurred during that span of eight years.

The data shows us that the speed camera fines have gradually increased over the period of eight years. Staring from 200,000 in the initial year upto 800,000 in the sixth year, but their is a step increase from sixth year to eighth year.

Althought the number of fatality accidents over the past eight years did not see any major changes eveb after deployment of speeding cameras. It started with 3000 accidents in the first year and little up and down over teh period but at the end of eighth year the number has been seen to increased from its initially value.

There was a survey conducted of 10,000 people to whom they asked the question like do speed cameras reduce the number of accidents, to which 60% of people said no 32% said yes and 8% of people refused to know and to the following question they answered were about the reasons for speed cameras to which peope 71% of surveyers said to increase the revenue and only 26% said to improve saftey. The final opinion asked was about thier thoughts on number of speed cameras 56% said too many, 17% said enough and 19% said too few and 8% didn't know.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover both charts and all three survey questions, and you identify the main contrast: fines rose substantially while fatalities changed little. However, some details are inaccurate or imprecise. Fines reached about 580,000 in year five and 780,000 in year six, not 800,000 in year six; the sharp rise continues through years seven and eight. Fatalities began at about 3,150, rather than 3,000, and ended at roughly 3,350. The survey figures are mostly reported correctly, but “refused to know” misrepresents the 8% who did not know. A clearer overview and more accurate selection of key figures would make the report more complete and precise.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a generally understandable order: it introduces the charts, describes the two trends, and then reports the survey findings. Paragraphing helps distinguish these sections. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes weak, and several sentences are joined awkwardly or left incomplete. For example, “Staring from 200,000 … but their is a step increase” does not form a clear, complete description, while the final paragraph strings several survey results together in one long sentence. Linking expressions such as “by contrast,” “meanwhile,” and “regarding the survey” could guide the reader more naturally. Organise each paragraph around one main feature and connect comparisons explicitly.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary, including “gradually increased,” “deployment,” “revenue,” and “improve safety,” so the topic is generally clear. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. “Number of fatality occurred” is not a natural way to describe the figures, and “refused to know” does not mean “didn’t know.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “represnts,” “nunber,” “Althought,” and “saftey.” Use precise terms such as “fatalities,” “respondents,” and “the proportion who answered ‘don’t know’,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For instance, “Staring from 200,000 … but their is a step increase” is a sentence fragment with faulty clause construction, while “the number has been seen to increased” has an incorrect verb form. In “There was a survey conducted … to whom they asked,” the relative clause is not formed correctly. Subject–verb agreement and articles also need attention, as in “the number of fatality accidents … did not see.” Practise complete sentence structures and check verb forms, agreement, and punctuation when describing trends.
