SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

Student answer (Band 4.5)

There are two graphs illustrating the report of drivers in Britain who have been caught driving too fast by speed cameras and the number of people killed in road accidents.

The information is given in numbers of both, speed camera fines and road accidents fatalities, over an eight-year period.

Overall, in the initial years the rate of speed camera fines is not too much high as campared to 7th and 8th year. In 1st an 2nd year, the fines are 200,000 and 300,000. Same in 3rd and 4th year, the fines are 400,000 and 500,000 and there is not great difference among both. Now 5th and 6th year, the rate is increasing gradually as 600,00 and 800,000, reveals a moderate difference. Finally 7th and 8th year, the drivers who caught by speed cameras and fined are with numerous strenght, 1,200,000 and 1,600,000 respectively, it exhibits cleraly that how much these finers have been increased in these eight years.

Secondly, there is graph of road accidents fatalities which looks likes a snake like structure among 8 years. It begins from 3000 and ends on 3500. The rate increase in first 2 years and decrease in next 2 years. Then it remains almost same and going towards 8th year it increases gradually.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify both charts and describe the broad rise in fines and the fluctuating pattern in fatalities, but the report only minimally covers the task. The survey tables are omitted entirely, so key information about public opinion—such as the 60% who said cameras do not reduce accidents and the 71% who believed revenue was the main reason—is missing. Several figures are also inaccurate: fines in years 3 and 5 are about 380,000 and 580,000, not 400,000 and 600,000, while fatalities begin at roughly 3,150 and finish near 3,350 rather than 3,000 and 3,500. The overview is limited and does not compare the series. Include all three survey findings and select accurate key figures to make the report more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the charts, discusses fines, and then turns to fatalities. Paragraphing and signposts such as “Overall,” “Finally,” and “Secondly” help readers recognise these stages. However, the progression is weakened because the overview is mixed with detailed year-by-year reporting, and the survey information is not integrated at all. Some links are mechanical or unclear, as in “Same in 3rd and 4th year” and “Now 5th and 6th year.” The final paragraph also strings together several changes without precise connections. Organise the report into a concise overview followed by grouped details, and use clearer references and transitions to show how the figures relate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “rate,” “increases gradually,” “decrease,” and “remains almost same,” so the main trends can generally be understood. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “numerous strenght” does not describe a number of drivers, and “these finers” is not an appropriate term for fines. “Snake like structure” is an informal, imprecise description of fluctuating data. Spelling errors such as “campared,” “cleraly,” and “strenght” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of trend and comparison expressions, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the reader can usually follow the broad trends. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in longer sentences, and errors occur frequently enough to cause difficulty. Examples include “the report of drivers,” “in 1st an 2nd year,” and “the drivers who caught by speed cameras,” where articles, prepositions, or verb forms are missing or incorrect. The sentence beginning “Finally 7th and 8th year” also lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “it exhibits cleraly that how much these finers have been increased” has faulty clause construction and tense. Practise complete subject–verb structures and accurate past-tense reporting, and separate complex ideas into shorter sentences with correct punctuation.
