The tables show the results of a survey on people's opinions on speed cameras.

Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information below.

SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

Student answer (Band 4.5)

The two graphs illustrate the number of drivers in britian who have been caught in camera by driving to fast and killed people in road accident.

Overall, there is a eight year survey time people caught by overspeeding. In begning the fine is two lack and after the eight year fine jump sixteen lack mean people can mistake regularly. on the other hand I think speed camera can help to decrease the challans. if we check in graph before six year fine ratio is less.

however the road accidient ratio is same. some time is minimum high in eight year. In the begining the road accident ratio is uper then three thousand and after eight year the ratio is same just increase five thousand rather tan previous. I think speed camera also helpfull to reduce the accident and overall 32 percent people agreed. I think the goverment add more cameras on the road to reduce the accident and overspeeding. because they are dangerous for our lifes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the broad topics—camera fines, road fatalities and public opinion—and give a general contrast between rising fines and relatively stable fatalities. However, the report only minimally describes the visual information and does not accurately cover the tables. For example, you mention that 32% agreed cameras help, but the survey says 32% answered “Yes” to whether cameras reduce accidents; you omit the 60% who said “No” and the other survey findings. Several figures are also seriously misreported: fatalities do not rise by 5,000, and the chart shows roughly 3,150 in year one and 3,350 in year eight. Replace personal recommendations with a factual overview and select accurate key comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening statement is followed by an overview and then comments on fines, fatalities and the survey. Connectors such as “Overall,” “on the other hand” and “however” show an effort to link ideas. Nevertheless, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview mixes description with personal opinion, and the discussion moves abruptly from the graphs to recommendations. Some links are unclear or contradictory, such as saying cameras can reduce accidents and then describing the fatality figures as unchanged. Use separate paragraphs for the overview, chart details and survey results, and make each paragraph follow a clear sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “speed camera,” “road accident,” “fine” and “reduce,” so the reader can identify the subject. However, the range is basic and several inaccurate or misspelled expressions make the report harder to understand: “caught in camera,” “driving to fast,” “challans,” and “road accidient ratio.” Some wording is also imprecise, such as “the fine is two lack,” where the chart concerns the number of drivers caught rather than a fine amount. Aim for accurate chart language and standard spelling, using terms such as “drivers caught speeding,” “fatalities” and “rose steadily” to describe the data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt a few longer sentences, including “In the begining the road accident ratio is uper then three thousand and after eight year the ratio is same,” but control of sentence structure is inconsistent. Errors in articles, agreement, tense and sentence construction occur throughout: “there is a eight year survey time,” “the fine is two lack,” and “the goverment add more cameras.” Several clauses are joined without clear grammatical relationships, which makes the intended comparisons difficult to follow. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses—for example, “The number of drivers caught rose, while fatalities remained broadly stable.” Check articles, plural forms and past-tense verbs.
