SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES

Student answer (Band 5.0)

The given graphs show the number of drivers in Britain who have been caught driving too fast speed by speed cameras placed on roads, and the number of people killed in road accidents, over an eight-year period since the introduction of speed cameras, and another graph show the results of a survey on people's opinions on speed cameras.

Firstly, speed cameras fines are approximately [redacted phone] in first year, and slowly increase year by year. Furthermore, dramatically increase in the speed camera fines in the year fifth, sixth, seventh and eightth from [redacted phone], [redacted phone], [redacted phone], and [redacted phone] respectively.

On the other hand, road accident fatalities are 3000 in the first year, 3100 in the second year, 3200 in the 3rd year and little bit decrese in the 4th year, and than slightly increase to 3300 in the 5th year, decrese in the 6th year and than icrease in the 7th and 8th year.

However, survey show that people think that speed cameras reduce accident 32%, not reduce 60% and don't know are 8%. Furthermore, main reason of installation of speed cameras is to raise revenue and speed cameras on the roads is too many speed cameras on the roads.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the two chart topics and report several broad patterns, including the rise in fines and the public’s scepticism about cameras. However, key figures and trends are inaccurate: fatalities begin at about 3,150, not 3,000, and fluctuate rather than following the sequence you give; fines in years 5–7 are approximately 580,000, 780,000 and 1,180,000, not 600,000, 800,000 and 1,000,000. The survey is only partly covered: you omit the percentages for views on camera numbers and give no figures for the reasons for installation. There is also no clear overview of the main contrasts. The response is 147 words, three below the required minimum; develop the overview and include accurate, selective survey details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic sequence: it introduces the visuals, describes fines, then fatalities, and ends with survey findings. Paragraphing and signposting such as “Firstly,” “On the other hand,” and “Furthermore” help the reader follow this order. However, the progression is limited, and some linking words do not express the relationship clearly; “However” introduces survey results without a meaningful contrast. The long opening sentence combines several elements, while the final survey sentence joins separate findings without clearly distinguishing them. Organise the report into a concise introduction, an overview, and focused detail paragraphs, and use links to show genuine comparisons or shifts rather than relying on a repeated list-like sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “speed camera fines,” “road accident fatalities,” “survey,” and “installation,” so the subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice or spelling problems reduce precision: “driving too fast speed” is awkward, “decrese” and “icrease” are misspelled, and “too many speed cameras on the roads” repeats the same wording rather than summarising the survey response. “Dramatically increase” is also not formed naturally in the sentence. Aim for accurate trend language and concise paraphrase, such as “rose sharply,” “fluctuated,” and “a majority considered the number excessive.” Check spelling and collocations carefully, especially in repeated key terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the reader can usually identify the intended comparisons. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, with frequent errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles, and verb forms. For example, “another graph show” should use a plural subject and matching verb, while “speed cameras fines are approximately 200000 in first year” needs clearer noun structure and an article before “first year.” The sentence beginning “Furthermore, dramatically increase” is incomplete because it lacks a clear subject and finite verb. The fatalities sentence also strings several clauses together with “and than,” making the relationships difficult to follow. Practise complete, controlled sentences and use past-tense verbs consistently when describing the eight-year data.
