Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the sharp rise in fines, from 200,000 in year 1 to 1,600,000 in year 8, and attempts to describe fatalities. However, it does not adequately report the survey tables, despite these being a major part of the task, and its overview is unclear. The claim that fatalities were “slightly low” in year 1 and reached a high in year 8 misses the key pattern: fatalities fluctuated within a relatively narrow range rather than rising substantially. The final claim that accidents declined is unsupported by the figures. The report is also 21 words below the required minimum, limiting the detail it can provide. Include a clear overview and select accurate comparisons from both the graphs and all three survey questions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to move from the graphs to a concluding comment, and time references such as “in 1 year” and “in 8 year” give the reader some sense of sequence. However, the response is presented as one paragraph, with no clear separation between an overview, graph details and survey findings. Several links are unclear or mechanical: “So in 8” and “Further more he mentioned” do not establish a logical relationship, and “This table” is confusing because the preceding discussion does not describe the survey table. The ideas also repeat the increase in fines without developing a clear progression. Organise the report into paragraphs, group related data, and use precise references and linking phrases to show how each point relates to the overall trends.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “speed camera fines,” “road accident fatalities,” “increased” and “decline,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or awkward, such as “the speed of camera fines,” “a large number of accident occur in roads” and “the raod accident rate is fell.” Spelling slips such as “strating,” “slighlty” and “raod” also reduce accuracy. Some wording is repeated rather than varied, particularly “speed camera fines” and “accident.” Use precise terms for trends and survey results, and check spelling and collocations. For example, describe fatalities as fluctuating or remaining broadly stable when that matches the data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response communicates a few basic points through simple clauses, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Errors appear in sentence structure and verb forms, for example “The line graph shows that the speed camera fines or road accident fatalities” is incomplete in meaning, while “the road accident fatalities is rise in 8” combines an incorrect subject–verb form with an incorrect verb construction. “The raod accident rate is fell” also shows faulty tense formation. Articles, plurals and prepositions are often missing or inaccurate in phrases such as “in 8 year” and “in roads.” Most sentences follow a similar simple pattern, with little accurate variety. Practise complete comparative sentences and past-tense reporting, checking subject–verb agreement, articles and plural forms before submitting.
