SPEED CAMERA FINES and ROAD ACCIDENT FATALITIES
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The graphs below show the number of drivers in Britain who have been caught driving too fast by speed cameras placed on roads, and the number of people killed in road accidents, over an 8-year period since the introduction of speed cameras.
There is a constant rose in the fines because of the speed cameras, In the beginning of first year the numbers were 2,00,000 and by the eighth year the trend have reached to 16,00,000 the graph was increasing at the lower pace till the 6th year but there is a huge surge between the year 6 and 8, while in the 6th year the count was 8,00,000 by 8th year it got doubled which marked the count to 16,00,000.
Secondly, we have a report for Road Accident fatalities for 8 years, which is fluctuating between 3,000 to 3,500 the graph went up in the third year then dropped in the next year.
At the bottom we have survey results of people's opinions on speed cameras.
60% of the people do not think that speed cameras reduce the number of accidents, wherein, 32% agrees that speed cameras do help.
Another question's result was majority of the people think the cameras were installed to raise revenue which marks the result in 71% and others think to improve road safety which is 26% of the people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You cover the two graphs and report several survey findings, including the rise in fines from about 200,000 to 1.6 million and the 60% who believe cameras do not reduce accidents. However, the report is only partially complete: it gives no clear overall summary of the main contrast between sharply rising fines and broadly stable fatalities, and it omits the survey result about camera numbers (56% said there were too many). Some details are imprecise: fatalities fluctuate around 3,000–3,350, rather than simply 3,000–3,500, and the fines rise is not constant in pace, especially after year six. Add a concise overview and select the most important comparisons to make the account more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable sequence: it describes fines first, then fatalities, and finally the survey. Phrases such as “Secondly” and “At the bottom” help signal these shifts, so the reader can follow the broad organisation. However, the report lacks a clear introductory overview, and the first graph discussion is packed into one long sentence with several ideas joined by commas. “Another question’s result” is also a vague transition. Use separate paragraphs for the two graphs and survey, and connect comparisons more precisely—for example, contrast the steep rise in fines with the relatively stable fatality figures. This would create clearer progression and reduce the mechanical feel of the linking phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “fluctuating,” “surge,” “fatalities,” and “raise revenue,” which helps communicate the main subject matter. There is also some attempt to vary wording rather than repeat “number” throughout. However, several choices are awkward or imprecise: “a constant rose” is not a natural way to describe the trend, “lower pace” is unclear, and “the count” is repeated. “A report for Road Accident fatalities” is also an unnatural collocation. Aim for standard chart language such as “rose steadily,” “at a slower rate,” and “the number of fatalities.” More precise vocabulary would make the comparisons easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt longer sentences with subordinate clauses, particularly when describing the fines trend, and use simple sentences to report survey percentages. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to sometimes make the meaning less clear. For example, “the trend have reached” has incorrect subject–verb agreement and tense, while “60% … do not think …, wherein, 32% agrees” has problems with punctuation and agreement. The opening graph description is also joined with commas where full stops or semicolons are needed. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and agreement, and divide long sentences into shorter units before adding more complex structures.
