Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowadays, many people believed that anyone can become successful in fields such as music, acting, literature, and art. While this idea encourages people to follow their dreams, I partly agree that it has also led to situations where fame is achieved without genuine talent, making it harder for truly skilled artists to received recognition.
On the one hand, social media has made it easier for ordinary people to become famous, Platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok allow creators to reach millions if viewers without professional training. In some cases, people become popular because of their appearance, luck, or entertaining content rather than artistic ability. As a result, they earn significant amounts of money, while highly talented musicians, writer, or painters may struggle to gain attention,
On the other hand, I do not believe that talent has completely lost its value, In the long term, genuine ability usually leads to lasting success. Artists with strong skills continue to be respected because they produce high-quality work and build loyal audiences. For example, many award-winning singers and actors have spent years developing their abilities before becoming successful. Their achievements demonstrate that hard work and talent remain important.
In conclusion, although modern media allows some untalented individuals to become rich and famous, I believe genuine talent is still appreciated and rewarded over time. Therefore, I partly agree with the statement, as true artistic ability continues to play a crucial role in achieving long-term success.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the essay is 241 words long, failing to meet the 250-word minimum requirement. This under-length impacts the development of ideas, which remain somewhat general. While the arguments regarding social media and the long-term value of talent are relevant, they could have been extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis to fully satisfy the requirements of a Band 7. The position is consistent, but the brevity prevents a more thorough exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the two sides of the argument. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, there are minor mechanical errors in punctuation, such as the comma splice in '...become famous, Platforms such as...' and the trailing comma at the end of the second paragraph, which slightly detracts from the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. The student uses topic-specific terms like 'genuine talent', 'artistic ability', and 'long-term success'. There are some minor errors in word form, such as 'if viewers' (instead of 'of viewers') and 'musicians, writer, or painters' (should be plural 'writers'). While the range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication or precision required for a higher band score. The vocabulary is functional but does not demonstrate a wide range of less common lexical items.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'many people believed' (should be 'believe'), 'harder for truly skilled artists to received' (should be 'receive'), and the aforementioned punctuation errors. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. The control of grammar is generally good, but more attention to verb tenses and consistency is needed to demonstrate higher accuracy.
