Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt but struggles with clarity and logical development. While you state your position clearly in the introduction, the supporting arguments are often repetitive or lack logical depth. For instance, the example of 'Peter Parker' is confusing and does not effectively illustrate the point about the arts. The essay tends to repeat the prompt's wording rather than expanding on the implications of the 'anyone can do it' attitude. To improve, focus on providing concrete, relevant examples from the arts industry and explain how these support your stance on whether talent is being undervalued.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is often mechanical or disjointed. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with' and 'In addition', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or do not bridge the ideas logically. The conclusion is particularly problematic as it largely repeats the introduction verbatim rather than synthesising the arguments presented. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of your argument. Improving the use of transition signals and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic phrases like 'rich and famous' and 'no talent' throughout the text. There are also instances of awkward word choices, such as 'proper actions and decisions' or 'cheating the society', which do not accurately convey your intended meaning. While the vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the basic message, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score. You should aim to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to the arts, meritocracy, and professional success to demonstrate a wider range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people with genuine talent is not appreciated'), article usage (e.g., 'a man known as peter parker'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are simple or contain structural errors that make them difficult to parse. While you attempt some complex structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb forms, and proofreading for punctuation and capitalization errors, which are currently quite frequent throughout the response.
