Student answer (Band 6.0)
Currently in some nations, there is a notion that everyone can be successful in the arts resulting in less talented people becoming wealthy and popular while real talent does not get the recognition it is due. I disagree with this belief because those gifted with artistic talent are often viewed as being no one when they have the potential and when they have the platform to showcase that talent it brings them into wealth and fame although not everyone will such talent will be successful.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and because the world is mostly dominated by those with a scientific approach there is a tendency for everyone that possesses artistic skills to be looked down on because they deviate from this norm and their talent may not appeal to such people. However, this does not diminish the vast potential they have. Sadly, there will be some talented artists that will die without a chance to showcase themselves because they gave in to the pressure to conform to the scientific society they find themselves.
Notwithstanding, due to the abstract nature of art and the lack of a definite scale for grading art there may be a minute number of the 'successful' artist who truly have no talent. But this small portion must not be used as a metric for judging the whole of artists. There are still many artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo whose skills are widely viewed as exceptional and they were not coincidences nor where they impeded from becoming accomplished by the non-talented artists of their era although there were many others.
Therefore, the people looked down on may just have artistic talents unknown to the society that despised them giving a notion that anyone can prosper in the arts. But this does not eliminate the fact that others with potentials may go unrecognised purely as a result of chance and not as a consequence of a large number of unskilled people succeeding

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While you provide a perspective on why some might believe 'anyone can do it' and counter this with the idea of 'abstract nature of art', the argument remains slightly abstract and lacks concrete, contemporary examples to support your claims. The mention of historical figures like Da Vinci is relevant, but the essay would benefit from more direct engagement with the 'rich and famous' aspect mentioned in the prompt. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, restating the position rather than synthesizing the arguments effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a central focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Notwithstanding', and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly forced. For instance, the transition from the 'scientific society' argument to the 'abstract nature of art' could be smoother. Referencing is generally clear, but the internal structure of some sentences makes the progression of thought slightly difficult to follow at times, particularly in the opening paragraph.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'notion', 'deviate', 'abstract nature', and 'exceptional'. There are some instances of slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'no one when they have the potential' and 'not coincidences nor where they impeded'. While you attempt to use more sophisticated language, some word choices are not entirely precise or natural. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are several grammatical errors that occasionally affect clarity. For example, 'not everyone will such talent will be successful' is grammatically incorrect, and 'nor where they impeded' should be 'nor were they impeded'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences that lack necessary commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. You should focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentence structures are punctuated correctly.
