Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is thought that in some countries there is an attitude that anyone can do well in the field of arts, as a result of which no talent becomes rich and genuine talent is not appreciated. This essay strongly agrees that genuine talent is not valued enough while strongly disagreeing with the former statement.

Forms of arts such as music, acting, literature, etc. form a crucial part of the society and a crucial industry in the market. Still, arts as a field has been widely rejected and least preferred worldwide for a long time. The main reason for this is the lack of job security and consistent stream of income. People today, in this growing economy, prefer to live a comfortable life with a standard 9-5 job that offers them a sustainable income for their survival, even if it means that one has to let go of their dreams and passions. The arts industry, meanwhile, is dominated by those who have already established themselves, leaving little to no scope for newcomers, creating fear among them.

But, it is also true that in this industry, real talents is often never appreciated or valued. For example, currently the Music Industry in india is dominated by just a few names- Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Pritam, etc. Indie artists, conducting small concerts in bars, clubs, or on the street, gain barely any attraction. True passion and talent that runs in the samll districts and villages never reaches the general public. Why? Because of lack of money, and lack of true fervent consumers of the arts.

In conclusion, I strongly oppose the idea that countries think that "anyone can do it in arts." Infact, it is the complete opposite. And I strongly agree that true talent is severely undervalued under the face of rich and talentless.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The essay addresses the prompt, but the position is somewhat contradictory. In the introduction, you state you 'strongly agree' that talent is undervalued, but also 'strongly disagree' with the idea that 'anyone can do it.' These two stances are actually complementary rather than opposing, which creates confusion. While you provide relevant examples from the Indian music industry, the development of your ideas is slightly uneven. You spend significant time discussing why people avoid arts careers (job security), which is only tangentially related to the core prompt about the 'anyone can do it' attitude. To improve, ensure your arguments directly support your central thesis without drifting into peripheral topics.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'For example' and 'In conclusion,' to link your points. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is a bit abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect sentences more fluidly. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal cohesion within the second paragraph could be strengthened to better connect the concept of job security to the 'anyone can do it' attitude.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'sustainable income,' 'fervent consumers,' and 'undervalued.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'no talent becomes rich' (should be 'people with no talent') and 'gain barely any attraction' (should be 'gain little traction'). You also have some minor spelling errors, such as 'samll' and 'Infact.' To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary choices are consistently natural and accurate in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'real talents is' (subject-verb agreement) and 'under the face of rich and talentless' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some minor errors, such as the missing space after 'samll' and the incorrect capitalization in 'india.' To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of prepositional phrases to ensure your complex sentences are error-free.
