IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries today, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the arts - music, literature, acting, art, etc. As a result, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued or appreciated.
Do you agree or disagree?
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
I disagree to the fact that "anyone can do in arts". Everyone in this world has its own interests and specialization in a certain field.
Some special attributes of people make them outstanding in their fields which eventually shows the difference between the successful ones and the people who did not make it. For example, Leo Nardo Da Vinci made a historical art piece "Mona Lisa", if "anyone can do it" so why since then no other astonishing art piece is created? Not everyone can do it because these people do it in a way from which common people can not.
The world appreciates the person who has a geniune talent and no one becomes famous for no reason. Robert Downy Junior, who was once jailed for criminal activities, struggled for many years to get a role in a movie but when he got a chance in 'Iron Man', he showed why he was capable of getting roles and to be famous.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 162 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state a clear position, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack the necessary depth required for an academic essay. You provide two brief examples—Leonardo da Vinci and Robert Downey Jr.—but they are not sufficiently expanded to support your argument effectively. To improve, you must elaborate on your points, provide more detailed analysis, and ensure you meet the length requirements to allow for a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into short paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. There is a basic attempt at linking ideas, such as 'For example' and 'but when', but the overall structure feels disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is minimal, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider range of transition words to connect your arguments more logically. Paragraphing is present, but the content within those paragraphs is too sparse to demonstrate a clear, sustained argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. You use some relevant terms like 'specialization', 'outstanding', and 'geniune' (spelled incorrectly as 'geniune'), but the overall lexical choice is quite simple. There are also some awkward phrasings, such as 'disagree to the fact that', which should be 'disagree with the idea that'. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated vocabulary and ensuring accurate spelling and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For instance, 'Everyone in this world has its own interests' should be 'their own interests', and 'Leo Nardo Da Vinci' is a spelling error for Leonardo da Vinci. Additionally, the sentence 'these people do it in a way from which common people can not' is grammatically awkward. You need to focus on subject-verb agreement, proper noun usage, and sentence construction to improve your accuracy.
