Student answer (Band 7.0)
In modern times, the issue of talent or fame and wealth in the arts has become highly controversial. There are those who say that anyone can do it in the arts such as music, literature, acting, art, etc. As a result, people with no talent become rich and famous is not valued or appreciated. From my perspective, I largely agree with this topic and this essay will explain why.
The primary reason for my agreement is that people with limited talent can sometimes become rich and famous in the arts. This is mainly because social media and entertainment platforms focus heavily on popularity, appearance and public attention rather than genuine ability. As a result, individuals who can attract a large audience may receive sponsorships and financial opportunities even if their artistic skills are average. For example, some online influencers become famous simply because their content is popular, while more talented artists struggle to gain recognition.
Another compelling argument is that genuine talent is still valued and appreciated in many areas of the arts. People who have strong skills in music, literature, acting or painting can build successful careers through hard work, training and consistent performance. Moreover, competitions, awards and professional institutions often recognise artists based on their creativity and ability. Therefore, although popularity can sometimes bring fame to less talented people, genuine talent remains an important factor in achieving long-term success.
In conclusion, although some people with limited talent can become rich and famous because of popularity and social media, I believe that genuine talent is still highly valuable. In the long run, creativity, skill and hard work are more important for achieving lasting success in the arts.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, presenting a clear position that acknowledges the phenomenon of 'talentless' fame while balancing it with the enduring value of genuine skill. The ideas are relevant and logically extended, particularly in the second paragraph regarding social media's influence. However, the essay could be improved by providing more specific, concrete examples rather than general statements about 'online influencers' or 'competitions'. While the position is clear, the development is somewhat balanced rather than fully exploring the implications of the 'anyone can do it' attitude. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic sentence, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore' are used effectively to link sentences and paragraphs. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the flow of the argument is consistent throughout the text. There is no evidence of mechanical or repetitive usage, and the referencing is clear, contributing to a smooth reading experience.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient and appropriate for the task. The student uses terms like 'controversial', 'genuine ability', 'sponsorships', and 'long-term success' effectively. While the range is adequate, it lacks a high degree of sophistication or idiomatic expression that would characterize a higher band. There are no significant errors in word choice or collocation that impede meaning. To reach a higher band, the student should aim to incorporate more precise, less common lexical items related to the arts and media industries.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a good control of grammatical structures. There is a mix of simple and complex sentences, such as the use of conditional-like structures ('even if their artistic skills are average') and subordinate clauses. The grammar is generally accurate, with only minor slips, such as the slightly awkward phrasing in the introduction: 'people with no talent become rich and famous is not valued or appreciated'. However, this does not impede communication. The punctuation is used correctly, and the sentence variety is sufficient to maintain reader interest.
