Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, there is an attitude in the field of arts and music that 'anyone can do it'. This encourages people to choose this field and achieve success, and identify there talent and passion. This has also lead to an argument that the real talent do not get the chance to grow and privileged people get to exploit this situation for there own selfish goals.

According to me, this argument and debate is completely disagreeable, because of the several reasons, such as, the preferences of people and audience and the competition are the key factors which ensures that only talented and deserving people can continue in this field. Furthermore, the chances of these privileged people are significantly low because they will not get the support from the people, which ensures that only desirable people get to enjoy the chance.

However, there are several loop holes that can easily be exploited by those greedy individuals, which contributes negatively to the situation. Moreover, the talented individuals are not supported by the industry, because they become the victims of the corrupted system, which only supports the rich and privileged individuals. The story of an animated movie named "Coco" is the best example which supports this argument.

Therefore, it can be concluded that, despite of several loop holes and drawbacks of the corrupted and biased system, the real judge is the audience and the common people, which is completely unbiased and they only supports the real talent and deserving individuals. In addition, changing the work environment, approach and creating unbiased system can in positive outcomes and results.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, presenting a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While you provide a clear stance, the supporting arguments, such as the reference to the movie 'Coco', are not fully explained or linked back to the core argument effectively. The essay tends to over-generalize, and the contradiction between the second and third paragraphs—where you first argue that only the talented succeed, then admit that the system is corrupted—makes the overall argument feel slightly disjointed. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is logically connected to your main thesis and fully elaborated with clear, relevant evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'However', and 'Therefore' to link your thoughts. However, some of these devices are used in a slightly mechanical way. Additionally, there are instances where the referencing is unclear, such as in the final paragraph where 'which' refers back to a complex idea, making the sentence structure slightly confusing. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal flow between sentences could be improved to ensure a more natural, sophisticated transition of ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'privileged', 'exploited', and 'corrupted system'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'identify there talent' (should be 'their') and 'desirable people' (where 'talented' or 'deserving' would be more precise). The repetition of words like 'people' and 'individuals' limits the sophistication of your writing. To improve, focus on using more precise synonyms and ensuring correct word forms, as well as paying closer attention to spelling, particularly with homophones like 'there' versus 'their'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede the flow. For example, 'despite of' is grammatically incorrect (it should be 'despite' or 'in spite of'), and there are issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'the real talent do not get' and 'they only supports'. These errors occur throughout the text. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these slips prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and preposition usage.
