In some countries today, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the arts - music, literature, acting, art, etc. As a result, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued or appreciated.

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is argued by many that the democratization of creative fields such as music, literature, etc has enabled individuals without traditional skills to achieve fame and fortune. This essay is going to completely disagree with the following statement.

To begin with, the democratization of media through digital platforms has shifted the artistic value to pure entertainment value. The lives of those talented individuals are being played by the ones who are in power. Previously, people would require an intense training to get the position they want and be recognized. However, nowadays without any hardship people are gaining fame and fortunes. For instance, singer with no artistic value has millions and followers and viewers. Thus, singers with much more talent are getting ignored by the society.

In addition, nowadays people with no talents are getting recognized and people with genuine talent are not appreciated and valued enough. Large entertainment corporations often scout individual who has more appealing visuals rather than those one who are exceptionally talented. Companies hire producers, ghost writers to polish the things that they produce and gain massive amount of money without using any talents. For instance, whether it is entertainment corporations or schools people judge them on basic of their visuals rather than their genuine talents. Therefore, we should not look at their outer appearance only but also their talents, inner beauty and attitude.

In conclusion, I believe that the modern population gives more values to the ones without any talent than the ones who are qualified enough to gain that kind of experiences, fames and fortunes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. For instance, the argument regarding 'entertainment corporations' in the second body paragraph is a good point, but it is not supported by specific, concrete examples or evidence, remaining at a general level. The conclusion contradicts the introduction; while the introduction states the essay will 'completely disagree' with the idea that anyone can succeed in the arts, the conclusion actually supports the premise that modern society values talentless individuals. This inconsistency weakens the overall task response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'In addition,' and 'Therefore.' However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'the lives of those talented individuals are being played by the ones who are in power.' The logical progression is hindered by the contradictory stance between the introduction and the conclusion, which makes the overall argument feel disjointed rather than a cohesive, well-reasoned piece of writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'democratization' and 'ghost writers.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choices and collocations, such as 'the lives... are being played by the ones who are in power' and 'judge them on basic of their visuals.' These errors do not impede communication, but they limit the precision of the argument and prevent the essay from reaching a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('singer with no artistic value'), pluralization ('individual who has more appealing visuals'), and preposition usage ('judge them on basic of'). Some sentences are slightly ungrammatical, such as 'people would require an intense training to get the position they want.' While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the writer's intent, they occur frequently enough to suggest a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms.
