Student answer (Band 5.5)

In some nations nowadays, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the art activities like music, literature, acting etc. While some people argue that individuals with no skills or talent become rich and famous and authentic talents are not recognised and valued,I strongly agree with these individuals due to several compelling reasons.

To begin with, one of the main reason is nepotism, this is because many celebrities are launched who have connections with the industry and those who are related to each other however if a person comes with the poor background and has an incredible talent still he will not succeed. For instance, ravi is talented in singing and has a great voice but still with no connections with the industry he will not get the fame what the nepo kids are getting. Therefore, individuals who have no talent are been supported whereas genuine talent is not even valued.

On the other hand, corruption also plays a vital role in achieving the goals, like in any form of art if individuals who want to succeed the shortest way is through corruption However there are some honest people who does not encourage this but i firmly belive many enjoy doing corruption.Furthermore, bribing the judges or anyone who is responsible in uplifting the carrer as a result, many genuine people struggle in the race.

In conclusion, although there are different views on attitude,I belive that individuals with no talent but money and connections become rich and famous faster and also in the modern society the genuine talent has being ignored.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention nepotism and corruption, the arguments are not fully extended with sophisticated reasoning or nuanced examples. The example of 'Ravi' is too informal and lacks the necessary context to be persuasive in an academic essay. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are supported by more generalized, analytical evidence rather than hypothetical personal anecdotes. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, but the overall depth of the response remains at a mid-level.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal the progression of your argument. However, the internal cohesion within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the mention of nepotism and the example of Ravi is abrupt. Additionally, there are some issues with punctuation, such as missing spaces after commas (e.g., 'valued,I', 'industry,if'), which disrupts the flow of the text. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring correct punctuation would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some relevant terms like 'nepotism', 'authentic', and 'celebrities'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of imprecise word choice, such as 'uplifting the carrer' or 'doing corruption'. These phrases sound unnatural in an academic context. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and academic vocabulary. Avoid informal phrasing and ensure that your word choices are consistently appropriate for a formal essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'one of the main reason is', 'honest people who does not encourage'), article usage, and tense consistency (e.g., 'genuine talent has being ignored'). Furthermore, there are several punctuation errors, specifically missing spaces after commas and periods. While your meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and sentence structure.
