Student answer (Band 5.0)

Believing that "anyone can do it" or having the attitude that "anyone can do it" is everything that actually make things happen for people. So it's the right way of living and achieving dreams.

When you say people with no talent became rich and famous, it's because the had right attitude which explain why attitude is everything. With the right attitude you can achieve everything. No matter you were initially skilled or not. You dreamt of something that is far beyond of your reach but you worked hard for it and with the right attitude, you'd eventually achieve it.

As for the people with genuine talent, if you only rely on your talent and stop working on yourself then talent only will not take you anywhere. Along with talent you should have the right mindset and attitude which actually lead you to value and appreciation. If anyone is stopping you from achieving appreciation, you, yourself is working against you.

The person who is talented is nothing as compared to the person who is not talented but has the right mindset and attitude. Attitude has this much power that it will make you the talented person over time only if you keep going.

To conclude, we can say the people who are being appreciated is only because they worked hard for it with the right attitude. Attitude is something that makes everything possible. If you have talent but not the right attitude it won't take you anywhere, as attitude is everything. Therefore, if you are talented or not, only the right attitude will make you successful and achieve big things.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt but fails to engage with the specific context of the arts. Instead of discussing whether 'anyone can do it' in fields like music or literature, the essay focuses almost exclusively on the abstract concept of 'attitude' and 'hard work'. By ignoring the nuances of talent versus effort in creative industries, the response remains too general and fails to provide relevant examples or evidence related to the arts. The position is clear, but the development is repetitive and lacks the depth required for a higher band score. To improve, you must directly address the specific domain mentioned in the prompt rather than shifting the focus to a general self-help argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is circular and repetitive. The same point about 'attitude' is restated in every paragraph without adding new layers of argument. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often basic or misused, such as the frequent reliance on 'so' and 'as for'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the third paragraph where the transition between talent and attitude is disjointed. While the essay is readable, the lack of logical development and the repetitive nature of the arguments hinder the overall flow and coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Words like 'attitude', 'talent', 'hard work', and 'achieve' are used constantly throughout the text, which restricts the range of expression. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or an attempt to use precise vocabulary related to the arts or professional success. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of variety and the simplistic word choice prevent the essay from demonstrating a higher level of lexical control. To improve, you should aim to use synonyms and more sophisticated collocations to express your ideas more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'it's because the had right attitude' (article and verb tense error), 'No matter you were initially skilled or not' (incorrect structure), and 'you, yourself is working against you' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences being fragmented or poorly connected. While the errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency is high enough to detract from the overall quality of the writing. A greater focus on sentence construction and proofreading for basic errors is necessary.
