IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries today, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the arts - music, literature, acting, art, etc. As a result, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued or appreciated.
Do you agree or disagree?
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The idea of treating arts as something that is possible for any individual to excel is causing wastage of real talent.Society claims that a person studying arts is nothing special due to overrated hype of STEM majors.I firmly believe that doing arts(music, literature) is not everyones cup of tea and in this essay i will support my stance.
First of all, arts is one of those things that i believe people are born with.Obviously a child isn't born a great muscian but he or she can have a natural fondnessor a sharp ear to differentiate beats. For example, a person with interset in science can practice and play the correct tunes of a piono but they can never play that instruments with that sentiments as a result their music feels dull.
Mainly, arts runs in family as heritage as a result the predecessor is expected to do the same job. Because of family reputation they may become wealthy but they steal the spotlight of someome born in poor family who actually had the talent.
To support my stance i will give the famous example of "Four hands-Two sonates" it is an epitome where the person victim of this minset didn't become a pianist.
Approaching sciences with the same aproach is also wrong if a person is a good writer, actor, journalist that doesn't mean they can be a good scientist, doctor or engineer as well.
To recapitulate, every human being is unique, special amd important in their own way.Genuine talent should be appreciated irrespective of the fact that the individual showing it has a rich or poor background.People should chose career according to their own taste and temperament.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The student addresses the prompt by taking a clear stance that genuine artistic talent cannot simply be acquired by anyone, supporting the idea that natural ability and emotional connection are crucial. The position is maintained throughout the response, and the arguments are generally relevant. However, some ideas lack sufficient development or rely on over-generalised claims, such as the assertion that arts run in families as heritage or that scientific minds cannot produce heartfelt music. The example provided regarding 'Four hands-Two sonates' is obscure and not fully explained, limiting its effectiveness. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, although some paragraphs are rather disjointed and abruptly introduced. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First of all', 'Mainly', and 'To recapitulate', but they can feel a bit mechanical or are used inappropriately given the context, as seen with 'Mainly' at the start of the third paragraph. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with ambiguous pronoun usage ('the person victim of this mindset'). While the essay has a logical flow in terms of addressing the prompt, the mechanical nature of the cohesion and occasional referencing issues place this firmly at Band 5.5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'overrated hype', 'temperament', and 'epitome'. However, there are frequent noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and collocation. Examples include 'wastage of real talent' instead of 'waste', 'muscian' instead of 'musician', 'interset' instead of 'interest', and 'piono' instead of 'piano'. Furthermore, phrasing like 'everyone's cup of tea' is somewhat informal for an academic essay. While communication is not severely impeded, the density of lexical errors prevents the score from reaching Band 6.0, resulting in a Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response shows a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text. Issues include missing articles ('is not everyones cup of tea'), punctuation and spacing errors (e.g., lack of spaces after commas and periods), run-on sentences, and subject-verb agreement problems ('every human being is unique, special amd important'). Although the meaning can generally be followed, the high frequency of basic and structural errors means that error-free sentences are in the minority, corresponding to a Band 5.0.
