Out of all the reasons why talent is not so importent, the predominant one to state is the significance of hardwork. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response is significantly under-length, containing only 162 words against the required minimum of 250 words. Because of this severe length penalty, the student cannot fully develop their position or support their ideas as required by the task prompt. While the writer attempts to address the prompt by stating an agreement with the statement and introducing the role of hard work, the essay cuts off abruptly in the second body paragraph ('Apart from these...'). Consequently, the main ideas are heavily under-developed and incomplete. According to the task achievement descriptors, this falls squarely under a band 4.0 performance, as the response is cut short and fails to complete the minimum requirements of an academic essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The text shows an attempt at logical organisation, introducing a clear thesis statement in the introductory paragraph and using cohesive phrases such as 'Out of all the reasons why' and 'To explain this perspective'. However, because the essay terminates prematurely in the middle of a sentence, overall progression is severely disrupted. Paragraphing is initiated properly with an introduction and a first body paragraph, but the second body paragraph is incomplete. Cohesive devices are used, but their effectiveness is limited by the abrupt ending of the text. Overall, the structural coherence is halted mid-flow, aligning with a band 5.0 score for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts to use some higher-level vocabulary and topic-related terms, such as 'compelling reasons', 'elucidated', 'pertinent examples', and 'predominant'. However, there are notable lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'an ego among an individuals', 'articians' (artisans), 'consistence' (consistency), and 'value of their commitment'. Vocabulary range is somewhat limited and repetitive with words like 'hardwork' and 'everyday'. While meaning is generally conveyed in the completed sentences, the noticeable word choice errors and spelling issues place this performance at a band 5.0 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, demonstrated by clauses such as 'the compelling reasons why I agree will be elucidated along with pertinent examples'. However, grammatical control is inconsistent. There are noticeable errors in article usage and agreement, such as 'an ego among an individuals', and awkward phrasing like 'consistence to do work everyday which makes them better everyday'. Punctuation is also faulty, with run-on structures and comma splices in the second paragraph. Because complex structures often contain errors and the grammar lacks consistency, a band 5.0 is appropriate.
