Student answer (Band 6.0)
In my country, there is a growing belief that anyone can succeed in arts, regardless of their natural ability. Consequently, some people without genuine talent achieve wealth and fame, while those with exceptional skills struggle to receive recognition. I largely agree with this view, as popularity and commercial success do not always reflect artistic ability.
One major reason for this trend is the influence of the social media and modern environment. Today, people can become famous simply by creating content that influence large audience, even if it has little artistic value. Social media perform often reward content that is entertaining, controversial or easy to consume rather than content requiring genuine creativity and expertise. For instance, an individual with large online following may receive opportunities in music or acting despite having limiting training. While a highly skilled musician who lack an online presence may remain unknown. This shows that visibility can sometimes be more important than talent.
Furthermore, the commercial nature of the arts can make it difficult for genuine artistic to compete. Producers and companies generally prefer performers who can attract a large audience and generate profit. As a result, talented new comers may be overlooked in a opinion of individual who are already popular. This can be particularly discouraging for artist who have spent years in developing their skills through education ad practice.
However , I do not believe that genuine talent is completely ignored. Exceptional artists can still gain recognition through competitions. In addition, audience eventually tend to appreciate originality and quality, meaning that truly talented individual can build lasting careers.
In conclusion, I agree that fame and financial success in art are increasing influenced by popularity rather than ability. Nevertheless, genuine talent still has the potential to gain recognition, particularly when an artist are given appropriate opportunities to demonstrate their skills.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by taking a clear and well-developed position that agrees with the view presented. The student explores valid ideas regarding how social media platforms and commercial pressures elevate popularity over genuine artistic ability, supporting these points with relevant explanations and real-world examples, such as content creators gaining opportunities despite limited training. Acknowledging counter-arguments in the fourth paragraph further demonstrates a balanced and thorough approach to the task. The arguments are well-extended throughout, meeting the criteria for a Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay displays clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, moving smoothly from the introduction to arguments about social media, commercialism, counter-arguments, and a concise conclusion. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'One major reason', 'Furthermore', and 'However'. Paragraphing is handled appropriately to separate distinct ideas. However, referencing and transitions are at times slightly mechanical, preventing it from reaching the highest bands. Overall, cohesion is managed effectively enough to merit a Band 7.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task with some attempts at less common items, such as 'commercial nature', 'exceptional skills', 'controversial', and 'recognition'. There are, however, several lexical and word-form inaccuracies present in the text, such as 'the social media' (unnecessary article), 'influence large audience' (plural/article omission), 'limiting training' (instead of limited), 'genuine artistic' (instead of artistry), and 'in a opinion' (instead of in the opinion). These errors reflect a Band 6.0 level, as the vocabulary is adequate and attempts less common words, but features noticeable slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, showing an ability to handle subordinate clauses and varying sentence lengths. There are, nevertheless, frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Social media perform often reward' (subject-verb agreement/word form), 'who lack an online presence' (subject-verb agreement), 'artists who have spent years in developing' (preposition usage), 'artist who' (pluralisation error), and 'an artist are given' (subject-verb agreement). While these errors do not impede communication, their frequency prevents the essay from achieving a higher score. This performance aligns comfortably with the Band 6.0 descriptors.
