In some countries today, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the arts - music, literature, acting, art, etc. As a result, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued or appreciated.

Do you agree or disagree?

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 4.5)

I think based on the attention span of current generation people are more drawn towards short form content like lipsync, short dance whereas the same group of individuals are subjected to a long form content like a speedpainting of drawing or a making or a song or a dance tutorial people tend to swipe through and not give it enough credit this claim can also be verified by the current increasing trend of nepotism, for example acting industry, people argue that the children of several popular actors have a higher chance to appear in a movie or get a debut movie without struggling as much as a newcomer or an outsider would. This is because the kids of famous actors which are also called "nepokids" dont have to go through the audition process and simply get a role if their parents get involved and recommend their name whereas an outsider would have to go through a rounds and rounds of auditions and interviews and have to compete with a lot of other people who aspire to be in movies and even if they succeed and final land a role they are usually paired as an supporting actor with the main lead going to a nepokid.Using this example we can understand that a person with a lot of talent can easily be neglected and the person without any talent can easily reach higher in the ranks and become rich and famous enjoying an extravagent life with a mediocre talent up his sleeves and the other guy can have extraordinary talent and live a mediocre life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the shift in people's appreciation for arts due to short-form content and nepotism. However, the essay is presented as one massive run-on paragraph, which hinders the overall development of ideas. While a position is discernible—that genuine talent is often overlooked in favor of popular trends and nepotism—the ideas are somewhat repetitive and lack rigorous support. The example regarding the acting industry and 'nepokids' is relevant, but it tends to over-generalise without providing a concrete, specific real-world instance. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to clearly structure distinct arguments, extend each point fully, and maintain a clear, focused position throughout a properly formatted essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

Coherence and cohesion are severely compromised by the complete absence of paragraphing. The entire response consists of a single, continuous 261-word sentence that runs from the beginning to the end without full stops or paragraph breaks. While the writer attempts to connect ideas using conjunctions and cohesive phrases like 'for example' and 'this is because', the lack of punctuation makes it exceedingly difficult for the reader to follow the logical progression. There are no clear organizational units, and referencing is confused by the breathless, unpunctuated flow. Proper paragraphing and sentence boundaries are essential for achieving a higher score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical resource demonstrates an adequate range for basic communication, using terms such as 'attention span', 'short form content', 'nepotism', and 'extravagant life'. However, there are notable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'final land a role' instead of 'finally land a role' and 'mediocre talent up his sleeves'. The vocabulary tends to be somewhat conversational and repetitive. Furthermore, the lack of punctuation obscures the vocabulary choices. To improve, the writer should incorporate less common lexical items with greater precision and ensure accurate collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited in terms of structural control because the entire essay is written as one giant run-on sentence connected by commas and conjunctions rather than appropriate terminal punctuation. There is a complete lack of full stops, which means there are virtually no error-free sentences. Although the writer attempts complex structures through subordination and relative clauses, the absence of periods and capitalisation results in massive grammatical inaccuracy regarding sentence boundaries. Frequent errors in punctuation heavily impede readability and pull the score down into the lower band range.
