You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, it is often believed that arts are an easy field to succeed in for almost anyone. That any person can do music, literature, acting, art and so on. However, others argue that this attitude has led to genuinely talented people being undermined, while individuals with mediocre skills become famous and wealthy. I agree with this view because arts should reward people with genuine talent and hardwork rather than people with influence, which is often prevalent in this field.
Social media has led to arts becoming something very approachable, with influencers creating a belief that anyone can persue arts and be great at it. This narrative creates an influx of people choosing arts, especially young social media personalities, such as vloggers, and bloggers with no talent for arts. For instance, many young influencers are shifting their careers to music, and acting, and hundreds of thousands of fans cheering them on and lobbying for them. As a result, production companies choose these famous personalities for acting roles, or albums, instead of choosing individuals that have been doing these things since years.
On the other hand, due to saturation in arts with influential people, individuals with genuice talent are ignored. This is because unknown artists cannot bring in the same amount of viewership that social media stars might bring. For example, famous persons have huge followings with millions of fans, so when they are hired for something, such as an acting role in a movie. Because of this, a large number of those fans watch these movies, increasing the overall audience. This leads to small actors being overlooked for roles that they are fully equipped to do.
In conclusion, I believe influence of certain individuals is having a negative imapct on arts, instead of choosing a person based on merit, people are being hired solely because of their influential status.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses the prompt directly by taking a clear stance that genuine talent is being undermined by influencers and popular figures in the arts. The position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant and supported with explanations, such as the mechanism by which production companies choose famous personalities over experienced artists to boost viewership. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise and could have been extended with deeper elaboration on specific art forms mentioned in the prompt, such as literature or fine art. Nevertheless, all parts of the task are addressed, and the response fits the Band 7 descriptor well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall progression and logical organisation. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, two body paragraphs representing different aspects of the argument, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Social media has led to', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader through the text, though referencing and linking could be slightly more varied. For instance, the sentence starting with 'Because of this,' in the third paragraph is a fragment error that mildly disrupts the flow. Overall, the organization is clear and logical, fulfilling Band 7 criteria.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student uses a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, employing terms such as 'undermined', 'mediocre skills', 'influx', and 'viewership'. Less common items are attempted with some awareness of style and collocation, although there are a few lexical inaccuracies and spelling errors, such as 'persue' instead of 'pursue', 'genuice' instead of 'genuine', and 'imapct' instead of 'impact'. These errors do not impede communication, and the vocabulary is adequate to convey the intended meaning, placing it firmly in the Band 6 territory.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar and punctuation. There are several good complex structures, such as 'This is because unknown artists cannot bring in the same amount of viewership that social media stars might bring.' However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including fragment sentences like 'Because of this, a large number of those fans watch these movies...' and minor punctuation lapses. Errors occur throughout the text, but they rarely impede communication, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.
