In some countries today, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the arts - music, literature, acting, art, etc. As a result, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued or appreciated.
Do you agree or disagree?
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowadays, the belief that everyone can succeed in any field is widely spread around the world. This tendency is becoming more and more popular in creative disciplines like music, art, literature, and acting; that's why these days we can see a lot of unskilled creators who are successfully selling their art pieces at ridiculously high prices. I strongly believe that's the reason for that, not an assumption about personal possibilities but a consequence of incorporating business into Art.
The attitude that everyone can become a famous artist or other creative specialist is highly beneficial for companies that are selling their educational courses and materials for aspiring creative minds. Moreover, students aren't often expected to have a portfolio when applying to a course. Consequently, a lot of individuals complete courses and get certificates without making any effort.
What's more, the whole art industry is suffering from the devaluation of true talent and tends to promote unskilled individuals instead. For instance, substantial proceeds from NFTs' sales represent growing demand for meaningless art pieces. Owners of these pieces become celebrities, inappropriately increasing the value of particular NFT collections. Therefore, art becomes a sign of status, promoting not genuine artists but those who can sell themselves as a brand.
To conclude, I suppose that the problem of underestimating talented individuals lies in the fact that people have begun to perceive art as a mark of status instead of the mark of a great idea. That's why the growing confidence in personal creative abilities among people is not the root of the problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the assertion that 'anyone can do it' in the arts and presenting a clear position that this phenomenon is driven by the commercialisation of art rather than a shift in personal creative potential. The writer establishes a distinct stance in the introduction and maintains it throughout the essay. Main ideas, such as the role of educational courses and the influence of the NFT market as a status symbol, are introduced and supported with relevant examples like 'substantial proceeds from NFTs' sales'. However, some ideas could be extended further for a Band 8 level, as the exploration of how genuine talent is devalued is somewhat concise. Nevertheless, all parts of the task are addressed, and the position is clear, fitting the Band 7 descriptor well.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, moving smoothly from the introduction and the impact of educational businesses to the commercialisation of the art industry via NFTs, and finally concluding. Cohesive devices are used effectively and flexibly, including phrases such as 'Moreover', 'Consequently', and 'Therefore'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate distinct aspects of the argument. Referencing is generally clear and straightforward, ensuring the reader can follow the writer's line of reasoning without difficulty, which aligns comfortably with the Band 7 criteria.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
The student demonstrates an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary appropriate for an academic discussion, using less common lexical items such as 'commercialisation', 'devaluation', and 'unskilled creators'. Collocations are generally handled well, as seen in expressions like 'creative disciplines', 'aspiring creative minds', and 'sign of status'. While there are a few minor lexical choices that could be more polished, such as 'selling their art pieces' instead of 'selling artworks', the vocabulary allows the writer to convey precise meanings. Spelling and word choice errors are minimal and never impede communication, supporting a solid Band 7 score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
The writer uses a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, demonstrating control over grammatical forms. Examples of complex structures include relative clauses and participial phrases, such as 'people with no talent become rich and famous' and 'promoting not genuine artists but those who can sell themselves as a brand.' There is a high proportion of error-free sentences, and punctuation is handled correctly throughout the essay. Minor slips do occur, but they are infrequent and do not disrupt the flow of reading or obscure meaning, comfortably placing the essay in the Band 7 category.
