Student answer (Band 6.5)
In contemporary society, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the arts. Therefore, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued. I agree with this view because of social media influence and technological advancement.
A particularly noteworthy reason why individuals with no talent become rich and famous is its potential to use social media to gain fame. This can largely be attributed to the fact that most people can access the internet, thereby enabling them to follow social media content with ease. In practical terms, people without talent can use AI to edit their information, and posting it on common social media platforms such as Facebook. As a result, viewers may like their content, which may in turn make them more popular than to those with real talent. When they gain fame, they can sell their artwork, which allows them to earn money, eventually making them rich. In the long run, individuals with genuine talent are not appreciated.
Another compelling argument in favor of the view that people feel anyone can do art is because of recent advancements in technology, which enables people with computer skills to create good content. This is particularly significant because they only require computer skills, despite being untalented. As a consequence, individuals with real talent compete with AI in art-creation, which makes it hard for them to prosper. Therefore, people develop an attitude that anyone can make it in art.
In conclusion, I agree that the belief that anyone can succeed in the arts has become widespread because social media allows people to gain fame easily, while technological advances have reduced the skills required to produce artistic content. As a result, people with limited talent can gain recognition and income, while genuine talent may receive less attention.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The student successfully addresses all parts of the task by taking a clear and consistent position in agreement with the prompt. The response presents two main supporting arguments: the influence of social media and recent technological advancements such as AI. These ideas are extended and supported throughout the body paragraphs, explaining how online exposure and simplified tools enable individuals with minimal genuine talent to achieve wealth and fame. While the development relies somewhat on generalization, the main points are fully relevant and directly answer the prompt's question regarding whether genuine talent is undervalued.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay displays clear logical organisation and a generally smooth progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, focusing on social media in the first body paragraph and technological advancements in the second. Cohesive devices such as 'Another compelling argument' and 'In conclusion' are used appropriately to guide the reader. However, referencing occasionally becomes slightly repetitive or mechanical, particularly with phrases like 'This can largely be attributed to the fact that' and 'This is particularly significant because', which slightly restricts the score from reaching a higher band.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The student demonstrates an adequate and flexible range of vocabulary suited to the academic task. Less common lexical items and phrases such as 'contemporary society', 'noteworthy reason', 'technological advancement', and 'genuine talent' are used with reasonable control. There are some minor limitations and occasional slight awkwardness in word choice, such as 'edit their information' instead of 'edit their content', but these lexical inaccuracies do not impede communication. The overall vocabulary deployed allows the writer to convey their arguments effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response exhibits a functional mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures successfully. Grammatical control is generally sound; for instance, the sentence 'In contemporary society, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the arts' is well-formed. Although there are some minor errors and occasional awkward phrasing—such as 'its potential to use social media' where the pronoun reference is slightly unclear—these errors do not impede communication. The frequency of error-free sentences is sufficient to secure a solid band 6.0.
