Student answer (Band 7.0)
In contemporary society, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the arts. Therefore, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued. I agree with this view because of social media influence and technological advancement.
A particularly noteworthy reason why individuals with no talent become rich and famous is their potential to use social media to gain fame. This can largely be attributed to the fact that most people can access the internet, thereby enabling them to follow social media content with ease. In practical terms, people without talent can use AI to edit their information, and post it on common social media platforms such as Facebook. As a result, viewers may like their content, which may in turn make them more popular than those with real talent. When they gain fame, they can sell their artwork, which allows them to earn money, eventually making them rich. In the long run, individuals with genuine talent are not appreciated.
Another compelling argument in favor of the view that people feel anyone can do art is because of recent advancements in technology, which enable people with computer skills to create good content. This is particularly significant because they only require computer skills, despite being untalented. As a consequence, individuals with real talent compete with AI in art creation, which makes it hard for them to prosper. Therefore, people develop an attitude that anyone can make it in art.
In conclusion, I agree that the belief that anyone can succeed in the arts has become widespread because social media allows people to gain fame easily, while technological advances have reduced the skills required to produce artistic content. As a result, people with limited talent can gain recognition and income, while genuine talent may receive less attention.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by clearly taking a stance agreeing with the prompt and supporting it with two main arguments: social media influence and technological advancement. The position is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported, such as explaining how social media enables untalented individuals to gain fame and subsequently sell artwork to become rich. However, there is a tendency to slightly over-generalise or lean on repetitive explanations regarding AI and computer skills in the second body paragraph. Nevertheless, the requirements of Task Achievement are well met, aligning solidly with Band 7 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The essay displays a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Each paragraph has a distinct central topic, starting with a clear introduction that outlines the writer's position, followed by two well-defined body paragraphs, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices such as 'A particularly noteworthy reason', 'Another compelling argument in favor of', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader through the arguments. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, and referencing throughout the text remains clear and easy to follow, satisfying the criteria for Band 7.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The student demonstrates an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'contemporary society', 'technological advancement', and 'genuine talent'. There are attempts to use less common lexical items such as 'noteworthy reason' and 'compelling argument'. However, word choice and collocation occasionally border on repetitive or slightly unnatural, such as 'edit their information' instead of 'enhance their work'. Spelling and word-choice errors are rare and do not impede communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.5, which rounds to Band 6 for conservative scoring or Band 7 depending on precise flexibility; here, Band 6.5 is appropriate due to some repetitive lexical phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over multi-clause structures such as 'This can largely be attributed to the fact that most people can access the internet, thereby enabling them to follow...'. There are frequent error-free sentences, and punctuation is managed well. While complex structures are attempted with generally good control, minor awkwardness in phrasing appears occasionally (e.g., 'Another compelling argument... is because of...'), but these minor issues do not impede communication. The grammatical control consistently supports clear communication, meriting a Band 7 score.
