Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the prompt regarding whether anyone can do art and whether genuine talent is undervalued, but it fails to develop a coherent argument or state a clear position. The student mentions topics related to art, music, and famous individuals like Atif Aslam, but the ideas are disjointed and often disconnected from the prompt. While the prompt asks whether the writer agrees or disagrees with a specific societal attitude, the essay lists random thoughts rather than exploring arguments about commercialisation versus genuine talent. Key terms are scattered without context, such as 'For example it may affect Famous, Intelligent, Genuine, Songs, Music or relationships.' Because the ideas remain largely undeveloped and tangential to the core question, this falls into the lower band categories. Task Achievement: Band 4.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the overall organisation lacks a clear logical progression. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or incorrectly, such as the repeated mechanical use of 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' without serving proper structural functions. Paragraphing is attempted, but sentences within paragraphs do not flow logically from one to the next. For instance, the transition from discussing families and schools to 'sad music and emmotional with other people on stress low improve the situation' breaks semantic continuity. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the train of thought. Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
Vocabulary is very basic, repetitive, and heavily restricted. The student relies on high-frequency words and struggles to use them accurately in context, resulting in frequent word-choice errors and odd collocations like 'stress low improve the situation' or 'intresting sonds'. There are also numerous spelling and morphological errors, such as 'dircet', 'chioces', and 'emmotional'. The range of vocabulary is inadequate to discuss the topic with precision, and the frequent errors frequently strain the reader and obscure the intended meaning. Lexical Resource: Band 4.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The grammatical range is extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and heavily flawed sentence structures. Attempts at complex sentences result in ungrammatical fragments and severe structural breakdown, such as 'If , people and society arts is very intresting and togathers people , the negative effects can be reduced'. Punctuation is used incorrectly and haphazardly, with spaces placed before commas and full stops throughout the text. Errors in tense, agreement, and word order are pervasive, frequently distorting meaning and causing severe difficulty for the reader. Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0.
