IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries today, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the arts - music, literature, acting, art, etc. As a result, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued or appreciated.

Do you agree or disagree?

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is argued that on the basis of this attitude that anyone can do it in the arts, music, literature and acting, some people with no talent become rich and famous and real talent is not appreciated in real countries.

I agree with this statement and this essay will be in favour of talented people. People should be appreciated and valued on the basid of their talent.

Anyone can do anything is a misconception nowdays in some countries. Actors know how to act and similarly musicians can sing. How could an actor can sing and singer can act? Social media has play an important role in this type of situation because people start doing vlogs, acting, singing, modelling all at once and also got rewards. In previous times actor got feedback at the end of a serial and most of the times after 2 or 3 plays. Likewise audience used to enjoy the song and then got recognized because of their song. But now singers who used to known for their music start acting and also got appreciation.

In this way real actors dont get much work and they also do not get appreciation or value. Due to social media people with no talent got appreciated more and vecome famous and rich because everything depends on views.

In my opinion all the professions should have some eligibility criteria and only those people who fulfills all the requirement should got selected for tge particular role or profession. In that way oy real talent got appreciated and valued.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear stance agreeing with the statement that lack of talent in the arts is leading to unearned fame and wealth. The main ideas are presented, such as the impact of social media and the blurring of lines between professions (e.g., actors singing and singers acting). However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. Sentences like 'Actors know how to act and similarly musicians can sing' lack deep elaboration or concrete real-world examples, keeping the response at a Band 5.5 level. To improve, the writer should fully explain how and why this phenomenon occurs, providing specific examples of trends or individuals to better substantiate their claims.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into five short paragraphs, attempting an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts and repetitive phrasing. For instance, the transition between the introduction and body paragraphs lacks smooth signposting, and paragraphs often consist of isolated statements rather than developing a coherent argument. Cohesive devices are minimal or misused, as seen with 'In this way' and 'How could an actor can sing'. Paragraphing is visibly attempted, but the overall organization and logical flow align most closely with Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with frequent reliance on fundamental words like 'talent', 'famous', 'rich', and 'appreciated'. There are also spelling and lexical inaccuracies, such as 'basid' instead of 'basis', 'nowdays' instead of 'nowadays', and 'vecome' instead of 'become'. While the student attempts some less common phrasing like 'eligibility criteria', the restricted range and persistent errors in word choice and spelling place this performance squarely in the Band 5.0 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and auxiliary usage, such as 'How could an actor can sing and singer can act?', 'people with no talent got appreciated', and 'only those people who fulfills... got selected'. Punctuation is basic, and tense shifts are handled awkwardly. Because errors are frequent and occasionally cause minor strain for the reader, the grammar performance reflects a Band 5.0 score.
