IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries today, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the arts - music, literature, acting, art, etc. As a result, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued or appreciated.

Do you agree or disagree?

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Now a days, every one is trying to get involed in the some activities related to art, singing, acting and literature without taking into account of their capabilities. As a result, the individuals having no related talent are becoming rich and dominat over the ones who are expert in that field. I strongly agree with it, and it can be illiustrated through following examples;

Firstly, i want to talk about tiktokkers, who are getting fame and have more followers in social medias. On tik tok, these people mimic the words of other people and start getting popularity. For example, a song is originally sung by Arjeet Singh but a tik tok influencer is trying to show lipsing on the same song and public consider, the song is sung by this influencer. This practice is effecting the original singer badly.

Secondly, i believe that it has utmost influence on the actors of our drama or film industries. There are many famous dialogues orginally spoken by a specific actor working in a drama. But after being viral of a dialogue, people on tik tok sart making video showing of their face and lips speaking each word exactly with the sound of that dialogue. This is an attracting approach being used by fake actors, and the real actors are becoming diminished.

Thirdly, the same trend is being practiced by people in the fields of literature and art. The writer of a book or painter designing a wall, both are novel in their work. But, other people steal their work and start selling them with their name. This is just because they can not do it by themself and want to be rich and famous.

To conclude, i strongly agree with the negative consequences of involvement of people in the irrelevant profession and letting behind the real talented peoples.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position that agrees with the prompt. The ideas are extended, particularly through the use of modern examples like social media influencers and TikTok, which directly relate to the prompt. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise or lack depth, such as the claim that people simply 'steal' art and literature directly, which borders on exaggeration. Nevertheless, the main thesis is maintained throughout the essay and the response is fully developed, matching the Band 6.0 or 6.5 descriptor well. We award a Band 6.0 because some ideas remain slightly under-developed or rely heavily on a single modern platform (TikTok) rather than a broader view of the arts.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. The writer uses sequential transitional markers such as 'Firstly, i want to talk about', 'Secondly, i believe that', and 'Thirdly' to organise the body paragraphs. However, paragraphing and cohesive devices are somewhat mechanical. Pronoun referencing is occasionally unclear, and spacing or punctuation errors around linking words detract slightly from the flow. Despite these minor flaws, the logical progression is evident throughout the essay, aligning comfortably with the Band 6.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'dominat', 'illuustrated', and 'irrelevant profession'. However, there are frequent spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'Now a days' instead of 'Nowadays', 'involed' instead of 'involved', 'lipsing' instead of 'lip-syncing', and 'novel' used incorrectly to mean novice. While these errors are noticeable, communication is not impeded, and the vocabulary remains minimally adequate to convey the intended meaning, placing this response firmly at Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including lowercase 'i' instead of 'I', missing articles ('the social medias' instead of 'social media'), and awkward phrasing like 'is an attracting approach being used by fake actors'. Punctuation is also faulty, particularly with commas before conjunctions in dependent clauses. Because these errors occur frequently and cause some distraction for the reader while still allowing the core meaning to be understood, a Band 5.5 is appropriate.
