Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the task by clearly stating an agreement with the prompt and providing relevant arguments regarding social media influence and nepotism in the arts. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The ideas are extended and supported with relatable examples, such as auditions favoring influencers over skilled actors, and university literary events inviting viral poets rather than veteran academics. However, there is a tendency to over-generalise, and some points lack the depth required for higher band levels. Nevertheless, all parts of the prompt are addressed, fulfilling the requirements for Band 6.5, rounded to 6.0 based on the descriptor fit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance right from the introductory sentence ('Yes, I agree with given statement'). Ideas are logically sequenced into separate paragraphs dealing with social media, marketing collaborations, and nepotism. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, with missing articles and awkward transitional phrases like 'The other thing is nepotism'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the final paragraph is abruptly cut off, which impacts the overall structural integrity and flow of the piece. Referencing and cohesive devices are minimally managed.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'influencer', 'collaboration', 'nepotism', and 'descendants'. There are, however, several noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'running behind the views', 'screening platforms', and 'living and struggling to get the chances'. Spelling and word-formation errors occur ('Aftet', 'descendents'), but they rarely impede communication. The vocabulary is minimally sufficient to convey the intended meaning, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding missing articles ('in given statement', 'in an audition'), incorrect prepositions ('in collaboration of different brands'), and punctuation errors. The final sentence is incomplete, breaking off mid-thought. While basic structures are generally accurate, complex sentences often contain faulty elements that require the reader to occasionally exert effort to decode the intended meaning.
