In some countries today, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the arts - music, literature, acting, art, etc. As a result, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued or appreciated.

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In other countries, a title of artist, actress/actors, writer,a nd musician is entitled to those people who has money regardless of their qualifications. Famous people bying such titles do not have any passion and do not exert effort mastering such skills. This consequently invalidate those people who worked hard to hone their innate talents to be recognized. I personally disagree this kind of reckless judgement.

Without the love for what you do, and intrinsic motivation, there is no such artist who can make a majestic piece of works. For instance, if the actress does not undergo various workshops they cannot shed a tears when the director will let them cry genuinely. Another example is in the field of music. To have a graceful notes, singer must spend their time reaching high notes, and it takes a lot of time to practice and master it. In addition, to display a piece of drawings, paintings, carving, and sculpture in museum, the artist who does the artworks must ensure that they can draw or paint on the spot because there are few art enthusiast would love to let the painter to paint them in real time. To show fabulous and noble prize winning talents, people who wan to be entitled such awards must be diligent, disciplined, and true to themeselves.

Contrastingly, if real artists would let others plagiarized their masterpiece, it is like betraying their confidence. Artist must acknowledge their strenghts, and must shows outstanding confidence to nurture their talent and earn money out of their artworks. Moreover, the judge committees must have a fair and standard criteria. The clearer the criterions, the excellent they can be in choosing the true artists. Furthermore, the judge must also have relevant experience and embodies the smae qualities they are looking for. Thus, people who pick the deserving contestants must have the same talent to give credible and reliable judgement.

Therefore, to be called as an artists, one must have a genuine interest in doing different arts. If someone ahs an innate talent, he or she must bold enough to claim what her or his talents deserve.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt regarding whether anyone can succeed in the arts and whether genuine talent is valued, establishing a clear personal disagreement. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed throughout the essay. For instance, the discussion about actors undergoing workshops or musicians hitting high notes touches on relevant points, but these ideas are not fully extended with deep explanation or concrete real-world examples. The position is visible, yet the support relies on brief generalisations rather than robust argumentation. To reach the next level, the writer needs to present fully developed ideas that explore the implications of wealth versus genuine talent with more depth and thorough supporting evidence.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays some organisation with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, and uses basic cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'Another example', and 'Furthermore'. However, there is a lack of clear overall progression, and the logical flow between sentences and paragraphs is occasionally disrupted. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the sudden shift in tone when discussing plagiarism and judging committees in the third paragraph, which disconnects from the main argument about innate talent and wealth. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion feels somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Improving overall cohesion requires ensuring that every sentence builds smoothly upon the previous one and that paragraph transitions are managed with greater precision and logical clarity.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic message. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary items such as 'intrinsic motivation', 'innate talents', and 'enthusiast', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word form, choice, and spelling, such as 'bying', 'invalidate' instead of 'invalidates', 'graceful notes', and 'criterions'. These lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations cause some difficulty for the reader at times. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire and use less common words and phrases with greater precision, ensuring correct word forms, appropriate collocations, and accurate spelling throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer employs a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple forms alongside attempts at complex sentences that are frequently faulty. There are persistent errors in grammar throughout the response, including subject-verb agreement issues ('people who has', 'singer must spend', 'few art enthusiast would love'), article errors ('a title of artist', 'a piece of drawings'), and awkward prepositions within grammatical patterns ('disagree this kind'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader. To progress, the writer needs to increase control over basic grammatical structures, ensure correct agreement and article usage, and construct complex sentences more accurately with fewer recurring errors.
