IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries today, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the arts - music, literature, acting, art, etc. As a result, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued or appreciated.

Do you agree or disagree?

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, many people believe that individuals without genuine artistic talent can achieve fame and wealth, while truly talented artists receive little recognition. I partly agree with this view because social media often rewards popularity over skill, although talented individuals can still achieve success.

Social media has helped dozens of talentless individual to get fame, as now a days people love t watch anything which is entertaining to them not talentfull. This particular act made a lot of people think this way that "anyone can do it" as it doesn't require any talent or hardwork. While there are thousands of other talentful people out their who can create art and do deserve fame. In my opinion AI have played a significant role in this, in past few years people has started creating music, paintings, edited images, videos, cartoons, and many more things using AI which is just a prompt away. now people can't easily differentiate between them and coclude all of the people who work in arts for being useless or unworthy of fame.

If we talk about music only we can see influencers creating music using AI, doing every step thriuh this technology from deciding a genre to writing lyrics to making music and till the final step to compile it. while their are artists who create music from scrach and still are famous for that, like Taylor swift, Sombr, Olivia rodrigo etc. I think when we talk about art it's not just about creating it it's also about selling it to the right crowd and that also matters in this case the wrong crowd will eventually think that this talent of yours' is useless.

Influencers are said to be equal to actors while i guess it takes more than yapping and moving your body infrnt of camera to be a successfull actor.

My final thoughts are that it's all about the crowd and people you are watching, celebrities who can create things or deliver art on their own should be focused and must get fame rather then those who caan entertain people doing anything which can be useless as well

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you partly agree because social media can reward popularity over skill, while talented artists can still succeed. You address the prompt with relevant points about AI-generated work, audience preferences, and the contrast between influencers and actors. The examples of Taylor Swift, Sombr, and Olivia Rodrigo help illustrate that skilled musicians can gain recognition. However, some claims are asserted rather than explained—for example, that AI makes people conclude artists are “useless or unworthy of fame.” The discussion of actors also shifts toward whether influencers can act, without fully linking this to whether genuine artistic talent is undervalued. Develop each point with clearer reasoning and a more balanced explanation of how fame and artistic merit relate.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an identifiable overall structure: an introduction, discussion of social media and AI, a music example, and a concluding view. This gives the reader a general sense of progression. However, the middle paragraphs contain several ideas crowded together, and the links between them are sometimes unclear. For instance, the move from AI-generated art to the named musicians, then to selling art to the “right crowd,” needs clearer explanation. Connectors such as “while,” “in my opinion,” and “if we talk about” are used, but some transitions feel mechanical or do not show the precise relationship between claims. The conclusion repeats the focus on audience and fame rather than synthesising the argument. Give each paragraph one main purpose and use clearer references and transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “genuine artistic talent,” “recognition,” “influencers,” “genre,” and “lyrics.” These terms help communicate your main ideas, and you attempt to discuss contemporary issues such as AI-generated music and images. However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “people,” “fame,” and “talent,” while several inaccurate or informal expressions reduce precision. Phrases such as “yapping and moving your body,” “wrong crowd,” and “anything which is entertaining” are not well suited to an academic essay. Spelling and word-form errors, including “talentfull,” “thriuh,” and “caan,” also distract the reader. Build a more precise academic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the opening sentence communicates the central issue clearly. There are also attempts to connect ideas using clauses, as in “although talented individuals can still achieve success.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, verb forms, articles, and punctuation occur throughout. For example, “Social media has helped dozens of talentless individual to get fame” has a number-agreement problem, while “AI have played” and “people has started” show subject–verb agreement errors. Some sentences run together, particularly the long sentence beginning “now people can't easily differentiate,” making the relationships between ideas harder to follow. Practise accurate sentence boundaries and agreement, then vary sentence patterns while keeping each sentence manageable.
