Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued in some countries that there is an attitude towards arts, music, literature, acting that "anyone can do it." As a results, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not value or appreciated. I totally agree with the statement because doing arts requires so much practice in the field. Additonaly, people who are doing this professionaly are quite focused and hardworkers because they work on their craft.

The first reason I agree is that people, who are doing arts are quite hardworkers and they believe in themselves. Nobody can replace the hardwork even with people who had no talent and still become famous and rich. They cannot experience the essence of hardwork. For example, if there's a person who worked day and night and became famous and rich and there's a person who became famous and rich overnight will have a world of difference. And if anyone can do the arts -music, literature, acting so everyone would be pursuing this career. Only the people who have creative mind can pursue these fields.

The second reason I totally agree with the statement is that artists thoroughly work on their crafts, whether its is acting, music, literature they work and improve their skill time to time. For example, if there's a creative requirement that have to be done quickly, a skilled artist will fill that requirement easily. So we should respect arts as we respect other fields.

In conclusion, I would say we should finish the "anyone can do it" attitude and respect the art profession. And support genuine talent in which the artist worked on their crafts for years.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that the arts require commitment and that genuine talent deserves respect. The two body paragraphs stay relevant, discussing sustained practice and the skills artists develop. However, the response only partly develops the task’s central claim that people without talent can become rich and famous while genuine talent is undervalued. The contrast between someone who works “day and night” and someone who succeeds “overnight” is relevant, but it is asserted rather than supported with a specific example or explanation of how this affects talented artists. The claim that only creative people can pursue the arts also needs qualification. Develop each reason with clearer evidence and address both sides of the statement more directly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The sequence of ideas is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “The first reason,” “The second reason” and “In conclusion” help readers identify the stages of your argument. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and some links between claims are unclear. For instance, the move from the overnight-success comparison to “everyone would be pursuing this career” does not explain how the ideas connect. Repeated references to hard work and respect also limit development. Use clearer cause-and-effect links and make each paragraph build one distinct point, with an example followed by an explanation of its relevance.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “genuine talent,” “creative mind,” “skilled artist” and “crafts,” and your meaning is usually understandable. However, the range is limited by repeated words and phrases such as “famous and rich,” “hardwork” and “arts.” Several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems reduce precision: “as a results,” “not value,” “Additonaly” and “professionaly” are inaccurate, while “finish the ‘anyone can do it’ attitude” is not a natural expression. Aim to use more precise language for artistic skill, recognition and success, and check spelling and common word combinations. This would make your argument clearer and more natural without changing its ideas.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including conditional structures such as “if there’s a person who worked day and night” and a relative clause in “a creative requirement that have to be done quickly.” However, complex sentences are often not controlled accurately, and errors occur frequently enough to make some relationships harder to follow. For example, “a skilled artist will fill that requirement” follows a clause with an unclear subject, while “whether its is acting, music, literature they work” lacks a clear grammatical structure. There are also problems with agreement and verb forms, as in “requirement that have to be done.” Practise building complete clauses with clear subjects and consistent verb forms, and use punctuation to separate contrasting ideas.
