Student answer (Band 5.5)

In some countries today, there is a mindset among people that 'anyone can do it' in the arts - music, literature, acting, art, etc. As a result, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued or appreciated. While it could be true to some extent, I dont fully agree to this statement.

In this day and age, because of social media people can showcase their talent to people all over the world. They can use their platform and display their talents be it singing, dancing or even art. I think its commendable that they are making use of the opporrunities that they are getting. Content creation is definitely difficult and requires a lot of effort and time. For example, nowadays we see a lot of influencers becoming actors. It's only because they have worked hard enough instead of being stuck in a bubble that people will go to them by themselves.

However, I would like to disagree that genuine talent is not appreciated enough. If a person is good at something then they should too grab this opportunity and present that to people globally. Social media is free so they should all make use of this instead of waiting for others to approach them. For example, actors are still getting casted even though there are so many influencers who can work for much cheaper. This is only because of their talent no other reason.

Therefore, I would like to conclude by saying that yes its easier to become anything in this era of social media however having that talent is equally as important.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is identifiable: you partly accept that social media makes it easier to gain fame, but reject the claim that genuine talent is no longer valued. The discussion is relevant, and the examples of influencers becoming actors and actors continuing to be cast support your view. However, the reasons are not fully developed. For instance, saying actors are cast “only because of their talent” is a broad claim, and you do not explain how audiences or casting decisions distinguish talent from popularity. The response also contains 236 words, below the required 250; the 32 words copied from the prompt are excluded from that count. Develop your examples and explain your reasoning more fully to address the issue in greater depth.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs present related points, and a conclusion restates your view. Linking expressions such as “However” and “Therefore” help signal the direction of the argument. Some connections are less clear or feel mechanical, though. In the second body paragraph, “If a person is good at something then they should too grab this opportunity” does not clearly connect the claim about talent being appreciated to the earlier point about social media access. The repeated references to social media also make the progression somewhat circular. Use clearer topic sentences and explain how each example advances your argument, rather than relying mainly on transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “showcase their talent,” “content creation,” “platform,” and “globally.” These choices make the main ideas easy to follow. However, some wording is informal, repetitive, or imprecise for an academic essay. “In this day and age” and “stuck in a bubble” are conversational, while “become anything” in the conclusion is vague. There are also spelling and word-choice issues, including “opporrunities” and “casted”; the standard form is “opportunities” and “cast.” Aim for more precise terms when discussing fame, recognition, and professional selection, and vary repeated words such as “talent” and “social media.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “While it could be true to some extent” and a conditional structure beginning “If a person is good at something.” Most sentences communicate your meaning, but some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. For example, “I dont fully agree to this statement” needs an apostrophe and a more suitable preposition (“agree with”); “they should too grab” has awkward word order; and “This is only because of their talent no other reason” needs punctuation or a linking phrase between the clauses. Contractions such as “its” should be written as “it’s” where they mean “it is.” Proofread sentence boundaries and practise accurate complex clauses.
