Do you agree or disagree?

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is thought in certain countries there is a saying that anyone can do arts. Therefore, people with no talent become wealthy and renowned and natural talent is under appreciated. I completely disagree with this view a person can not become rich if they have no talents and some artists do not want fame or money.

Admittedly, anybody can do arts there is no such thing as luck that a person becomes rich in it without any talents. Some people have a different qualities in doing arts that it becomes attractive to the public such as resembling nostalgia and optimism. For example, music genre such as classic reminds old people of the old times. Consequently, arts target a specific audience.

On the other hand, some artists just want to express their emotions through arts rather than earn a money in as it is their way of coping stress and isolating around the world. Some of them do not want to be seen because they value their arts similar as themselves. For example, a photographer did not want to take a picture because they value the moment that lies infront of them.

In conclusion, I completely disagree that those who have innate talents were under appreciated. Anyone can do arts as they have different qualities in expressing themselves that appeals to the public. Some just dont want to be seen as they value the arts and moments.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You state a clear position—“I completely disagree”—and give two relevant reasons: that audiences may value different artistic qualities, and that some artists create for personal expression rather than fame or money. However, the response only partially develops the task. The first reason does not directly establish that people without talent cannot become rich, and the example about classical music is brief and general. The photographer example also does not clearly support the claim about artists’ motives. The conclusion repeats your position but does not resolve these gaps. The response is 14 words below the required minimum, which further limits the space available to explain and support your ideas. Develop each reason with a clearer link to the question and a specific, relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting different points, and a conclusion. “Admittedly” and “On the other hand” help signal the movement between ideas, and the final paragraph returns to your position. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear. For example, the link between “different qualities” and “resembling nostalgia and optimism” is difficult to follow, while the photographer example does not clearly connect to the point about avoiding fame. The conclusion also repeats ideas rather than bringing the argument together. Use clearer topic sentences and explain how each example supports the paragraph’s main claim. More precise referencing would also help readers follow who “they” and “some of them” refer to.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “renowned,” “innate talents,” “express their emotions,” and “specific audience,” which helps communicate the general subject. There is also some attempt to vary wording rather than relying entirely on basic terms. However, the range is limited, and several choices or combinations sound unnatural or obscure meaning, such as “resembling nostalgia and optimism,” “isolating around the world,” and “value their arts similar as themselves.” These issues make parts of the argument harder to understand. Aim for precise collocations and check whether each phrase expresses the intended idea. For instance, explain that a musical style evokes nostalgia, or that an artist uses art to cope with stress, rather than combining words in an unclear way.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. The opening contains a run-on structure in “I completely disagree with this view a person cannot become rich,” which needs a full stop or a linking word. Other examples include “anybody can do arts there is no such thing,” the incorrect article pattern in “earn a money,” and the agreement problem in “qualities … that it becomes attractive.” There are also missing apostrophes in “can not” and “dont,” and punctuation is inconsistent. Practise separating independent clauses and checking articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries before submitting.
