IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries today, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the arts - music, literature, acting, art, etc. As a result, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued or appreciated.
Do you agree or disagree?
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is often argued by some people that in some nations the belief that everybody can become an artists in field like music, literature and acting has become popular. As a consequence, untalented individuals gain wealth and fame while true artists are ignored.Although some might disagree with this statement,I completely agree with this notion because social media gives fame to everyone without talent and the commercial industry does not support genuine artists.
To begin with, social media has allowed people with no real talent to become famous in the arts.In the past, only talented singers or actors could enter the industry after years of training. However, nowadays platforms like Tiktok,Youtube and intagram should allow people to upload a song or a video. As a result, many people with poor singing or acting skills get millions of followers and earn a significant proportion of money through advertisements. For example,in Pakistan many Tiktokers with no acting talent are now working in dramas on TV's,while trained theatre actor are still jobless.Hence, this crucial element can clearly justify my stance.
Furthermore, another major reason supporting my view is that genuine talent is not appreciated because of commercialization.Today, music and art companies want to make a profit,so they promote those who already have a large fan following, not those who have a real skills. In the countryside and cities, there are many talented painters and writers who have no money for marketing,so their work reamins unknown. For instance,a talented classical singer needs 10 years of practice but a person with auto-tune can become famous in one night. So, this system discourage true artists and damages culture. Thus, this factor can expresses my stance.
In conclusion, although technology has given a chance to everyone,I agree that this `anyone can do it` attitude has made non-talented people rich and famous and reduced the value of genuine talent.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction—“I completely agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address both parts of the claim by explaining how social media can make people famous and how commercial priorities can leave genuine artists unrecognised. The examples of Pakistani TikTokers entering television dramas and classical singers competing with auto-tuned performers help make the argument relevant. Your ideas are extended with reasons and consequences, rather than simply listed. However, some claims are broad, such as saying that companies promote people with large followings rather than real skill, and the point about artists lacking marketing support could be explained with a more specific illustration. Developing these points with clearer evidence or qualification would make the support more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” make the structure easy to follow. You also connect examples to the claims they illustrate. At times, however, linking phrases feel formulaic or repetitive, particularly “Hence, this crucial element can clearly justify my stance” and “Thus, this factor can expresses my stance.” These sentences repeat the argument rather than advancing it. Aim to use transitions more selectively and make the relationship between each example and its consequence explicit, so cohesion feels more natural and less dependent on stock phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “commercialization,” “fan following,” “classical singer,” and “genuine artists.” These choices help communicate your argument, and the meaning is generally clear. You also attempt some less common expressions, though several are inaccurate or unnatural: “a significant proportion of money,” “a real skills,” and “damages culture” do not express the ideas as naturally as intended. Spelling and word-form slips such as “intagram,” “reamins,” and “non-talented” also reduce precision. Build accuracy by checking collocations and forms, and prefer precise phrases such as “earn substantial advertising revenue” or “undermines cultural life.” This would make your vocabulary more flexible and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in “Although some might disagree…” and a cause-and-effect structure beginning “As a result.” Most sentences remain understandable, and the grammatical errors do not generally prevent the reader from following your argument. Some errors persist in agreement, articles, plurals, and verb forms. For example, “everybody can become an artists” should be “everybody can become an artist,” “trained theatre actor are” needs plural agreement, and “this system discourage” should be “this system discourages.” The final phrase “can expresses my stance” also has an incorrect verb form. Proofread sentence endings and check subject–verb agreement and singular/plural forms to improve accuracy while retaining your complex structures.
