IELTS Writing Task 2 question
In some countries today, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the arts - music, literature, acting, art, etc. As a result, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued or appreciated.
Do you agree or disagree?
You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The phrase "anyone can do it" is often use to encourage people strive to do the things they want in any field they would like to try. This may be a big part for someone's confidence but not everyone has the capacity to do it better or the best.
I completely disagree that people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued or appreciated. Firstly, they become who they are because they're talented and worked hard to be skilled in the field they chose. They've had sleepless nights, and exhausted days due to so much pressure on themselves to be known and they made it. In addition to that, fans, customers and investors will not get pursue them if they aren't good enough for their standards.
Furthermore, we can be the best through practice as what other say "practice makes perfect". I have this experience when I just started my profession as an online English teacher, I wasn't the best, my grammar needs improvement even my speaking skills so I started with a very low rate then as the time had elapsed I became confident and proficient in teaching students that's when my efforts paid off, my salary increased and got more students than usual.
In conclusion, no one started to be the best we all started from the bottom to climb to the top. If you want to be known then you should start building your skills, and knowledge as early as you can.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
Your position is clear: you disagree that people without talent become famous while genuine talent is overlooked. You support this with a personal example about developing as an online English teacher, which is relevant to the value of practice and effort. However, the response only partly addresses the specific claim about fame and recognition in the arts. The teaching example does not show whether talented artists are valued, and the point about fans and investors is asserted rather than illustrated. The response is also 234 words, below the 250-word minimum; 16 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop the argument with a concrete arts-related example and explain how it supports your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two supporting paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of your argument, and the personal example is placed in a separate paragraph. However, progression is not always smooth: the first body paragraph moves from hard work to fans and investors without clearly explaining the connection, while the second shifts from practice to your salary and student numbers. Some links are also awkward or unclear, such as “In addition to that” and “as what other say.” To improve, make each paragraph develop one central point and use linking phrases that show the precise relationship between ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for discussing effort and achievement, including “capacity,” “pressure,” “proficient” and “efforts paid off.” These choices help communicate your main ideas, and the response remains understandable. However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “become who they are,” “will not get pursue them,” and “as the time had elapsed.” Some repetition of “best” and “talented” also limits flexibility. Aim for more accurate collocations and vocabulary specific to the arts, such as recognition, artistic ability, performers or creative work. Reviewing phrases in context will help you express your ideas more naturally and precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and longer sentences, including the conditional “If you want to be known then you should start building your skills” and the sentence describing your professional development. The overall meaning is generally recoverable, but errors occur in verb forms, agreement and sentence construction. For example, “is often use” should be “is often used,” and “my grammar needs improvement even my speaking skills” needs a clearer grammatical structure. In “as the time had elapsed I became confident,” the tense and clause structure are not well controlled. There are also run-on sentences and missing punctuation, particularly in the personal example. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, verb forms and sentence boundaries, while keeping complex sentences clear.
