IELTS Writing Task 2 question

In some countries today, there is an attitude that 'anyone can do it' in the arts - music, literature, acting, art, etc. As a result, people with no talent become rich and famous and genuine talent is not valued or appreciated.

Do you agree or disagree?

You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

In recent times many countries have this behaviour of imposing that any one can do anything for example the art forms like music, literature, acting etc. Which effects the authenticity of the real talents who gets less appreciations and the people who lacks the actual talent become financially benefited and get the recognition from the audience. This essay aggrees to the fact that due to social media and trend of being viral by doing anything and getting famous and rich is actually an unfair situation for the aspiring people who are genuinly talented. For example how only viral content can make someone a well paid influencer or a song made with AI can make a person a viral well paid singer rather than a person who genuinly sings well .

Nowadays, anyone can be famous even without having an actual talent. A person doing inappropriate things can become viral and actually get brand deals and earn good but a person who is literally making good content is not getting any appreciation or any recognition which results the downfall of the real talent. For example when the actual person does not get the appreciation they tend to pull back for doing it and rather than following their pations they went to the works which will give them money rather than following their pations.

In conclusion, I agree with the fact that the attitude anyone can do is quite unfair for the real talents and resulting in decrease of pure talents .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that people without genuine artistic ability can gain fame and income while talented creators are overlooked. You also give relevant examples involving viral content, influencers and AI-generated songs, and explain that lack of recognition may discourage talented people. However, the response only partly develops the issue. The examples are asserted rather than explained or supported, and the discussion focuses mainly on social media rather than exploring the broader attitude that anyone can succeed in the arts. The second body paragraph repeats the central claim and gives limited detail about its consequences. Develop each main point with a specific example and a clearer explanation of how it demonstrates the unfairness you describe.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction stating your view, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The ideas are generally relevant and the reader can follow the overall argument. However, progression within paragraphs is limited, and the second body paragraph largely restates the first paragraph’s point about undeserving people becoming famous. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “For example” and “rather than.” The opening sentence also combines several ideas before clearly establishing their relationship, while the conclusion repeats the position without drawing the argument together. Give each body paragraph a distinct focus, use clearer links between claim, example and explanation, and avoid repeating the same point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “authenticity,” “recognition,” “aspiring people” and “appreciation,” and phrases such as “brand deals” help convey the modern context. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes the meaning less precise. Examples include “imposing that any one can do anything,” “less appreciations,” “financially benefited” and “the downfall of the real talent.” Spelling errors such as “aggrees,” “genuinly” and “pations” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise academic phrasing and check spelling and word forms carefully; vary repeated terms such as “talent,” “famous” and “appreciation.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “which” and “when,” but control is inconsistent. Several sentences contain faulty structures that make the reader work to identify the main point. For instance, “Which effects the authenticity…” is a fragment, and “a person who is literally making good content is not getting any appreciation” shifts awkwardly between forms. There are also agreement and sentence-boundary problems, as in “the people who lacks” and the long opening sentence joined with a full stop before “Which.” The conclusion’s “attitude anyone can do” is grammatically incomplete. Practise building complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check agreement, tense consistency and punctuation when editing.
